Its been a plague for about 10 years (or longer!) when Dunlop moved from steel hardened screws to 'less then perfect' screws. Always a battle to get the drill bit size right, put soap on the screw, and get the unit all the way down while holding guitars in slightly wonky positions AND trying to keep the head from stripping out. I thought I had it licked when somebody recently suggested the Japanese round handled screw drivers. They worked a treat on some finicky small tuner head screws. But as usual, the #2 screwdriver can only get you so far before it gets stuck on the inside edge of the Straplok and the screw won't go any further. The #1 version was working but I could feel it slipping and the smaller handle gave me less downward force to move the screw. Grabbed my Stew Mac screwdriver set (which I'm not always keen to use because the handle is SO small and any friction makes it useless!). The #2 driver actually gets all the way inside but I can't turn the tiny handle with any force! Pull it out and look and go, "Hey, with this hexagonal end, I can probably put this in my drill and make it go!" .8 seconds of careful slow drilling later, Straplok end installed all the way! I'm not saying go out and buy this set for $53, but if you already have one, the solution is right there! Stew Mac

The screws that come with the current straplocks are made of recycled stale donuts and old underwear. I chuck a 1.5" stainless steel sheet metal screw into a hand drill and run the head against a grinding wheel to reduce the head diameter so it fits in the lock button. Works a treat and never had a problem with any of them that I've installed.

I just cheap out and use the $1 rubber gasket locks!

Stale donuts and old underwear. Now that's a potent mix I'll strive to avoid.
