Got a demo from Sweetwater for a very good discount; I've been wanting another ribbon to have around for some applications, and it checked the boxes.
We shall see how she does.

I looked at that one but honestly don't know what application I'd use it for. All my guitars go through the Eleven Rack. The only thing I mic these days are vocals and acoustic guitars.
The cream colored R1 MKII is retro sexy.

I deleted my former post because I'm an idiot. I'm curious as to this as well. It might be good to have another ribbon mic in my arsenal. Something with a different sound than the Royer.

The only ribbon mic I ever owned was a Beyer handheld that I bought before I knew my ash from my ebow. I think it met some adversity after mic'ing a kick drum with it. 😕

Yea,this is rated to 160db, so...should be a little more tolerant.
It's in hand, waiting for it to acclimatize from shipping.
It will reward having decent boom stands I suspect - the mount itself doesn't have a whole lot of option due to the cable routing which I could technically remove but I also know that the high end will be VERY directional so I'll be wanting to place it exactly where it fits.

Very pleased on initial tracking.
Needed to put the low-cut filter on, which wasn't surprising, and hit somewhere north of 130 db.
Room was alive and then some.

If you have heavy mics you really do need a heavy duty mic stand. A good one is expensive. I hate buying mic stands and speakers. Neither one are sexy or fun to play with but are essential pieces of gear. I don't want a $3500 Neumann tipping over and hitting the floor just because it was attached to a $60 mic stand. I could buy a number of heavy duty mic stands for what the repair bill would be on the Neumann.

Yep. I have one heavy-duty that I assigned to this purpose, and it'll pretty much live on it in an upright position!

Rob, have you used this mic enough to give it a review? I am curious as to the quality.

Years back when I worked in a sound shop there was a female singer who would bring in her ribbon mic pretty regular on Monday mornings increasingly livid that it kept crapping out. Turns out she was letting the sax guy blow through it. DONT DO THAT! Problem solved.

Rob, have you used this mic enough to give it a review? I am curious as to the quality. I have at this point - it's held up to high volume abuse as advertised. The only thing I ended up having do was put a phantom power blocker (ended up with a Triton in-line phantom eater, talk about first world problems) because everything else I'm using is a condenser or a dynamic that doesn't care (Senn e906) on the thing. It sounds like the room, just ..better. A bit of presence, and when I run that through the SDD-320 on the master bus dialed in at maybe 5-10% mix (which is the one thing that the originals and the clones miss - a mix percentage), punches WELL above its price point. I haven't taken it out of the studio, mind you, and I know better than to swing it around my head like a monkey. I'm going to be looking at some of the other Golden Age Project stuff soon, considering trying out a Neve pre clone since I don't have one laying around.

I would like to have a Neve clone as well. That would round out my mic pre selection nicely. Been looking at the Warm Audio WA73-EQ preamp/EQ unit. I would love to have a BAE but I'd have to save up for that. Those are generally considered to be the next best thing to a genuine Neve. They are about $1300 per channel for just the preamp only with no EQ. Maybe someday......

Warm Audio stuff is generally solid and delivers.
I abuse the hell out of their Roland Jet Phaser clone.
I just wish they'd added a COUPLE mods to it (I've always wanted the dirt from one to be standalone useable, sort of the same way I had a Bee Baa boost made separate recently).
The Jet Phaser is my favorite phaser because of the gain circuit and its interaction, and just as a straight phaser it's #2 to my preferred beloved monster, the 1/4" power supply using 18v DOD Performer 595 (the old BIG box DOD), a six stage amazingly chewy monster.
The Warm Audio take on the Jet is basically a Waza with no custom modes - just quieter than the vintage ones I'm used to with nothing missing.

I have a Warm Audio WA76, 1176 compressor clone, and it is very very good. I don't have a genuine 1176 to compare it to but it sounds better than my Universal Audio, or any of my other, 1176 plugins. Bigger` and more transparent are the words that come to mind. It has that grit thing going on as well when it's pushed hard like an 1176 does. I have heard those who are supposed to be in-the-know say that it isn't exactly an 1176 but it does what it does very well. It is so good that I would definitely consider their 1073 clone. Sweetwater has them, with the EQ, for $799. There are used ones for sale in the $650 to $700 range.

Yea, I'll take "close" - I've been VERY happy with my Klark-Tecnic Pultec tube EQ clone, and an 1176 of some stripe will follow me home eventually as I like hardware.
Right now I'm just paying down some purchases as, well, I had a new studio space to outfit in the last couple years and it hasn't been cheap, going from a tiny apartment with limited space (and possible volume) to separate outbuilding with 1k+ sqft.

Ohhhh...I am envious. 1000 sq. ft. is wonderful! I can't even imagine having that much room. I could set up my Hammond with the bass pedals and both Leslies if I had that much space. The bass pedals are wrapped in a packing blanket out in the shed and will probably always be there. One of the Leslies is in the studio room and one is in the living room. I have less than 200 sq. ft. for my studio and I have to share it with a dresser, a wash stand, and a bed. I would have enough room if I could just get the bed out of here.

Yea, I was in a tiny space for the last 15 years or so.
More important than the space is it's outside city limits by a long shot, so if I want to fire up the Marshall at 4 am...have to.
It's also literally a few yard from the residence, so no travel time!
