I have a long driveway and towards the top, I have an inch and half wide crack that goes across. The driveway is regular asphalt. What type of product or method should I use?

i don't know what they used, but when we had the drive sealed, there were a couple of places that had cracks and they put a really thick gooey tar in it. they said it was the same stuff the D.O.T. uses on the highways... in fact, they were the very company that did that work for them. it worked. we are supposed to reseal every 5 years, they said.

For the wide cracks I use this stuff called “crack stix “ . It comes in a tub and it looks like a tar rope with plastic around it . You heat it up with a propane torch and melt it in the crack . Takes some practice , but it works great.

Are there underlying causes like earth movement or change in water table? Maybe solve for that cause before starting a lifetime of patching.

The big crack is at the top of the driveway which goes down a hill. It can't be a water issue.
