Does anyone have suggestions for quieting a 2” ball mount (or step) in a receiver tube? It is correctly sized, but rattles quite a bit. I would prefer a tool free solution since I keep a step mounted when not trailering but want to be able to pull it and switch to a ball mount without fuss. I’m thinking some kind of wedge arrangement. Thanks!

Yep - I bought a device that is a U-Bolt with a piece of heavy steel with a bend on the end. When you clamp it down over the reciever, the bent part of the steel pushes down on the tow bar....works great, but usually needs to be tightened once after you drive a bit
Massive difference though.

I just put a big rubber band around mine. Quiet as a church mouse.

I just put a big rubber band around mine. Quiet as a church mouse. I tried an assortment of things like that: wood shim, duct tape, rubber band (wouldn't fit), etc. I even tried a different commercial product that failed. The one like I linked above worked like a charm. If the rubber band works though, it's a cheaper and easier solution.

I took the Flowmaster approach.

Then I got the idea to cut it, then stretch it around the hitch almost to the point of breaking (got it really flat) and then scotch tape in place. It’s stayed so far (about 9 months). I don’t take mine off, however.

I took the Flowmaster approach. Ok, I’ll bite. Loud exhaust....don't hear the tow bar clanking in the receiver?

Making a shim with an aluminum can always works too.
