What a great run!
Ironically, the most notable of his albums was one where some other guy played guitar. That album/situation even hung a moniker on an amp.

I am happy to have seen him in the nineties.

I am happy for him. All those years doing what he likes best and retire with $5 million or so. Good on ya bro.

I saw him live at either Winterland or Fillmore West around 1968 when Mick Taylor had replaced Peter Green in the lineup. Canned Heat and Buddy Miles Express opened, if memory serves. Between Clapton, Green and Taylor, I always felt that Taylor was the most sophisticated player. Read an interview of Keef at some point in which he expressed a similar view. He said that Taylor was an amazing musician and that he couldn't understand why he didn't do more with his talent after he left The Stones.
Also read that all those musicians were just hired guns who were basically pretty much just paid union scale for their contributions. Since he was the band leader, Mayall got the overwhelming majority of the precedes from record sales and touring, which may help to explain why he's not exactly scratching for ducats these days (as Ricky just pointed out).
By contrast, Taylor's net worth is supposedly about $300K.

I’m glad I got to see him about a decade ago in a small venue. I thought his heavy-set guitar player rocked.

Saw him at a blues festival once in Norfolk Va. I was amazed to see him at the merch table and got his autograph. Spoke with him briefly and he was friendly.
Also have seen another of his guitarists a couple of times in small venues- Coco Montoya. He sure could pick em!

Come to think of it, besides Montoya, I've seen Clapton live, and Mick Taylor in the Stones (1981- the concert where Keith used his Tele as a weapon!).

Oh yeah I forgot Montoya played with Mayall. I saw Coco at the old Zephyr in SLC and it was another great show. The heavy-set guitarist was Buddy Whittington.

Wasn’t Buddy on the FDP at one point?

While touring days are over, John may find a local venue up in Topanga Canyon from which to hold court. Kind of like what Les Paul did all those years in Times Square. These days, John Mayall may be Topanga Canyon's most famous resident.
