Every once in awhile, it'll really hit me and I'll say to the wife, "man...we're OLD!"
Used t'be she'd respond, "yeah...but we're not that old: we're not as old as Jeff and Kristin" (or some other couple we know).
Anymore, she'll respond, "yeah...but we're not that old: we're not as old as...as...uh......as...uh...
So that's it right there: you know you're old when you start running out of people t'not be as old as.
Next...

As Pete Seeger once opined.......Your old when your "get up and go" has "got up and went".

My wife says, we’re going to have to move to a smaller place. I say, before we can’t. She says, not yet.
well, you know what’s going to happen!

My wife will make a comment about some old geezer she saw committing a traffic misstep. "How old was he?" I ask. "Old, she says, "our age."

My wife and I recently watched all of Downton Abbey and while looking at the profiles of the cast I was surprised that with the exception of a couple characters they were all younger than me. Heck, think back to Archie and Edith. They were around 50 when All In The Family started.

I really started feeling "age" around 65. At present, when I get down on the floor for anything, it takes some effort to get back on my feet. I also get a little dizzy if I stand up too fast. Oh, I forgot, I'm 70 now.

My approach, at 71, is to stay in shape and keep moving.
I'll get back to ya and let ya know how that worked out.
If you don't hear from me, you'll know it didn't...

Being retired and hitting 70 tells me I'm old.
I'm just as good as I used to be--just more sore afterwards.
My wife who has a couple of years on me, was briefly offended when some young male officeworkers referred to her as an "old lady". But we really are old.

I still consider myself a young person at 71. I blame all my infirmities on the half-dozen of prescription drugs I take daily.
Other than my glaucoma and gradually receding peripheral vision in the right side of my right eye.

based on the demographics of this board, I have to say one sign is joining this board. No offense meant.... None taken. Two things about joining this board: It's the continuation of a guitar-based forum. Guitar-based music peaked in the younger years of my/our generation. Other thing: rules of civility required by this forum require a certain level of maturity attained by years of living.

After I turned 60 I decided to embrace it, and had MCMLVI tattooed on my arm. I wear it proudlt, even though most of them young punks have no idea what it means. A few more years of work for me, and then,
"I get up each morning and dust off my wits, Open the paper, and read the Obits. If I’m not there, I know I’m not dead, So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed!"

You know you (or someone) is getting old when someone says, "So-and-so is X years YOUNG" today. Dead giveaway.

For me it's seeing so many of my friends pass away. At my current age of 74, I guess that's to be expected.
Most of my buddies who have passed away were airline pilots. If you are young and want to live to see your grandkids, I suggest you not try that profession. It really takes a toll...

Rant mode in full force:
I'm 61 now and I run circles around everyone younger than me at work, even the folks that are only 20 some years old. I manage our 2nd shift sanitation/maintenance crews for a 4 elementary school district.
I end up subbing for MIA workers far too often, (no one can seem to find their way to work now days).
I consistently blow their doors off with my speed and how much/how good I get things done. Folks want to know my secret. All I say is, get to work, keep working and don't waste time.
Hell I've even pulled doubles subbing for first shift workers that did not show up & then doing my regular 2nd shift and I still out perform most all.
What ever happened to a good, solid work ethic? I rarely see it anymore.
When it comes time to hire someone, frankly the candidates are so bad one can only cringe and pick the one that will most likely stay at least past the first day, (or lunch break).
It's really a sad situation these days. Folks can't seem to get to work, and when they do show up they don't want to work. Taking excessive breaks, too long of lunches, ( This week I instituted punching in/out for lunch as the abuse of lunch times was running rampant.
Workers would leave the school, go home and come back late with the excuse the traffic was heavy. TOO BAD! You're docked, don't do it again! Now that they have to punch in/out/ I'll have documented proof of their excessively long lunches. But yet they expect everything to be handed to them, including premium wages.
(Old geezer shakes his head, then fist, and then walks off (albeit swiftly)into the sunset.)
As my friend's dad used to say, "if I had to do it all over, I'd raise pigs".
Nuff said.
Ehwhat?

A few years ago when my wife ( then 55) and I ( then 57) went to pay for meal at IHOP the young lady rang us up and said “I am giving ya’ll a Senior discount”. With that my wife “blew a gasket “ and lit into her with “I am mot a senior!”. The woman looked at me with a sheepish look and I said “Don’t look at me, I am only 26” 😂 Now at 65 and 67 respectively We are glad to get it.
Back in 2012 when I was 59 some of us got together to play at our 40th High School reunion. As I carried my equipment in two young men at the bar said “ Look at those old men carrying guitars in” . Yep that was when I started to feel old! 😁

Between my wife and I and a couple down the road that are good friends, we've all lost a parent in the past year.
That whole 80+ generation is going fast.
And my generation, the Boomers, is next up.
Have a nice day.

I'm 71 and am amazed that I'm still going. I hit the gym 3 days/week, golf once a week, and play guitar in two bands that gig regularly. No special diet, just "portion control" to keep the weight down. Evenings I have a toke and a sip of Irish. I guess it's in my DNA. With so many people around me suffering from serious illnesses, I feel very lucky.
