...OK...not really. We had a crappy weather day and a quiet weekend, so we decided to spend some time together in the kitchen.
We started the afternoon making creme brulee. Them made a simple French bread loaf.
For dinner we had: Medium rare filet mignon - grilled Baked potato Grilled asparagus with hollandaise Fresh french bread with butter A nice Bordeaux Creme brulee for dessert.
Sipping on an XO cognac as I post.
Life is good.

Sounds great Back when I was drinking cognac I loved Courvoissier XO but @ $100 a bottle too expensive for everyday. But when we closed on the house we had $200 left over so I went to the liquor store to buy a couple bottles. When I got there it was on sale for $50 so I bought the last 4 bottles they had, haven't had it since. Only thing better is Louis XIII

Only thing better is Louis XIII I buy my cognac on sale and save for a cap to finish great meals. They have a Louis XIII at my grocery store for 3300. I will drop 150 for a nice XO ( Remy or courvousier for example), but Louis is out of the question. I might buy a pour sometime if I feel like splurging. I've been a fan of cognac since my dad shared with me 40 years ago, but vsop was the top tier forever. Went in a cruise and made the mistake of inquiring about Louis they had in the duty free shop. They put on the hard sell and didn't want to believe I want going to spend 3k on a bottle of booze. I subscribe to the concept of the law of diminishing returns. I feel confident saying the difference between a 150 XO and Louis is not worth the difference in price.

We're going to work through the Julia Child French cooking cookbook. Good food is one of life's pleasures. Learning to prepare it?...one of life's challenges.

Pork tenderloin on the grill here, and veggie kabobs. And a nice KJ chardonnay.
No creme brulee, though. Too bad, I love creme brulee.
Cheers, slacker!

But at $17 a shot we only had one. There was a recent news report w video of a woman stealing a bottle at a wedding reception. I never could drink VS, just too harsh, then Courvoisier came out w Napoleon, a step above VSOP but I was switching to bourbon by then

Oh...and Pappy (bourbon).. I had a pour, if you like bourbon it is top shelf. That said Buffalo Trace is the same mash recipe just not aged as long or in the same rick house. But try finding Buffalo trace at list price.

Back then I couldn't stomach anything less than Courvoissier VSOP and then they came out w Napoleon, a step above. But I was making my transition to bourbon and have only had cognac a handful of times since. On my honeymoon in Paris in '86 we had a shot of LIII and it was delicious but @ $17 per that was it.
btw there was a recent news story w video of a woman at a wedding stealing a bottle of LIII.

Can't beat Buffalo Trace for the $$$, if you can find it. Just killed my last drop the other night.
