that Elon Musk has over 80 million followers on Twitter.
I'm not a Tweeter, never had an account, and don't know how it works -- just that it seems to be the way all the cool kids communicate now.
I assume conversations are taking place, but if you have potentially 80 million people who are ready to yak at you -- whether you do something good or bad, how can that possibly be manageable?
It sounds exhausting.

I've never been on Twitter but, from what I know, one posts a status and all 80 million (for Elon) can read it with the option to comment. For example:
Elon: I pooped today. Comment: Was it runny or solid?

Like when Jim Carrey had all of those prayer requests in his email in Bruce Almighty.

I wonder how many of those are bot accounts.

Short answer is its not possible, but having 80 million "followers" is a good ego boost to those who value themselves based on such things. And there are plenty of people like that.

I wonder how many of those are bot accounts. Even if it's half -- how can anyone step into that mess and have any meaningful discourse?

From my limited viewing experience it seems the large majority of Tweeters follow the snark formula. The wittiest ad Hominem attacks serve as empirical evidence of a superior intellect.

I just read that Musk now owns 9.2% of Twitter and is its largest stockholder by far.

I don't think that's really what Twitter is for, let alone a 'celebrity" Twitter. I am sure he never reads any of it, he probably posts stuff and looks at the numbers like how many times it got retweeted or how many followers he has and it makes him happy.

I blame pop music. If you can't make your point in 2:30 minutes or 280 characters, move on!

I've never had a Twitter account and, even given the opportunity to converse with Musk on pooping, I'm not likely to open an account any time soon.

I tried it once years ago and didn't like it. At the time it seemed cheezy and boring

I follow Elon on twitter and he is a hoot, and one of the few people worth following imo. Most people not ate up with envy can find a lot to like about him and what he is doing, some of which is epic and heroic and inspiring.

And I’m sure you aren’t trying to have conversations with him, just reading his posts because they are interesting or funny.

I'm not a Twitter user, but I get a daily newsletter that often links to stuff on Twitter. the following is in today’s edition.
This is an interesting example of the randomness of Twitter. The guy in the link has a Twitter account and posts stuff that usually gets "10s" of likes and/or retweets. He posted a tweet about the Grammys and his Tweet took off like wildfire. 😂

I have an account and I tried it for a while when it first came out. I never tweeted anything, and still I received a bunch of followers. That told me it was basically a three-second version of Faceboob.
It's Soundbite Central. You're not going to get any actual high-calorie information from Twitter. In this age of information overload, all it does is add to the noise.
Its purpose is to create buzz, and that is all you're going to get.
And not even a good buzz.

As I said, I don't do the Twitter -- but I get most of his highlights from some of the alternative news sites I follow. I agree that he's friggin' hilarious. Considering Parag Agrawal has offered Musk a seat on the BOD, which is simply a defensive move because it limits the percentage of shares he can own as long as he holds that position, I'm expecting a shake up. I'm still not planning to sign up -- but given that he is richest man on the planet and certainly one of the smartest, I'll find ways to keep up with what he's doing. I just love a good crap show -- I think I'll be investing in popcorn. This should be fun.

What’s interesting (bots, etc. aside) is the speed at which news of events around the world travels - and often directly from those witnessing said events.
Twitter - as a platform - is a particularly effective in making this possible.
