I live at the end of the street. I have been led to believe that since I am at the very end of the COX cable connection line my internet speed will suffer.
True? Untrue? ... I do not know.
What I do know is my internet speed is seeming to be horrible.
My question is this: Is there an easy way for me to see what my internet speed is?
I have my new computer up and running.
Off internet is does its stuff just dandy, but online everything is herky-jerky ... can't even play a YouTube video.

I have no idea what this means, but it seems to be what that site is telling me.

I don't know if those are considered fast or not, but I just did mine for comparison. Keep in mind, I don't have internet. I use my phone for a hotspot if I get on the computer. And, I can YouTube, stream, whatever with no issues; do it quite regularly.

While messing around here I found an update for Windows 11 on my system. I got it done.
Now I'm running videos like normal.
It seems the system has been running updates none stop since I set it up.
It looks like there is one more pending as well.

If you are at the end of your street and the only subscriber on that line, you get all the bandwidth. If there are multiple subscribers, the bandwidth starts getting smaller as traffic competes to send the packets. However, being at the end of the street doesn't really make a difference, it's how many competing connections that makes it an issue. This is why a dedicated fiber line is preferred. You are only competing with traffic on your circuit (meaning connections in your house). Just for comparison sake, ran speedtest on my PC. 896mb down, 944mb up.

Those aren't typos.

Pings ms 7 Downloads Mbps 588.17 Uploads Mbps 9.80 That means your download speed is faster than anything I've ever seen at home. And our internet isn't slow either. Right now, a test here shows it at 142 Mbps, but that's at the opposite end of the house from where the modem is located. I'm sure it's faster coming in though. Paying for 600 Mbbs, never seen it lol.

The ping is great, if you were a gamer you'd be very happy with that. The download speed is great as well. The upload isn't bad for home use. You would only need a higher speed if you were doing live podcasts or providing a service for other people to see. If you are having prolems at your house means maye you need to reset your router or get a new one. Or you might have a PC, tablet or phone or even a switch that is using a lot of bandwidth or flooding your home network for some reason. But if everything is running normal you should have great performance with those speeds.

Thanks for the input guys. I have been off line for a few days. Dell support has been going through our computer (remotely).
they say the computer is functioning fine, but the browser is not. They have reloaded the entire operating system once.
Right now, as I type, I had a YouTube video playing. I notice is shut off. I check the tab and it thinks I am not connected to the internet ... however my connection icon does not indicate disconnected.
Dell was having that problem as well. Saying I was disconnected when I'm seemingly still on line.
COX tech is coming out tomorrow morning and we will (hopefully) find out what is going on. I think I do want a new modem/router no matter what. We have been losing WiFi occasionally.
This desk top and the one in the music room are hard wired to the router.

OK ... I could not register the above post to the forum with a video running. Tried twice.
I finally shut down the video and another window I had open on AOL ... the post registered pretty quickly after that.
I have never had a problem with a video running in the background and posting to a forum at the same time.
Queenie just said the internet (WiFi) is not loading well on her iPad right now either.

COX has come and gone.
The modem was bad. He swapped in a new one. My main line in from the street also has problems.
The modem swap was the main problem and things are much better now. He did indicate the main line in (problem) could be causing the modem to randomly restart, so the two could be related at times.
I'll bring in a new line form the street, but I'll schedule it for later.
Per a thread I made a while back I also want to run a new water line to the back yard. Both projects involve cutting concrete in the same areas, so I want to merge the two projects.

Good luck! Trying to schedule one maintenance job is difficult enough, these days. But I hope you're able to "get 'er done!"

Trying to schedule one maintenance job is difficult enough, these days The good thing here is ... no scheduling. I'll be doing it all myself. I'll be installing a conduit from the COX box at the street all the way into the attic where all my connections are. Concrete cutter and blade (for 4 hours) about $110.00. I'll cut a 6" straight line swath out of the concrete, trench down a bit and run the conduit for the cable. Drill to punch a 1 3/4" hole through my footing at the end of the garage is another $40.00. The COX cable install might end up being a dry run of the water conduit, not sure on the timing yet.
