Howdy. Yesterday my son gave me a wedding present (he is getting married - why me?)
1963 Dano Convertible. It is really clean. Has a Curtis Novak lipstick pickup. The action is low, frets great, and the neck straight. Haven't plugged it in yet. The only minus is the bridge which just sits on its 3 screws and easily moves around. I think I'll do a mod to secure it without actually modding the original guitar: The bridge screws protrude almost 1/8" from the bottom of the bridge. I'll get a thin piece of wood, drill thru hole or just depressions corresponding to the screw locations. Then using thin double-stick tape, secure the wood to the body in the right place to get good intonation.
What do you think? Is thin double-stick tape even available?
Anyway, it was sweet of him to give it to me!

These old Danos are fantastic guitars. Nothing else sounds like 'em!

Hey that's the one. I plugged it in and it sounds fine. Pickup is 4.5, chimey if picked near the bridge, and full if towards the neck. Thick brazilian rosewood board.
To fix the bridge, I got a thin sample of vinyl flooring and found some very thin double-sided tape. The bridge is actually only about 1/16 off the top. So I'll cut the vinyl to the shape of the bridge, and drill thru holes to fit the 3 bridge screws. Then locate the bridge and tape the vinyl down. Then the vinyl holes should keep the bridge from moving sideways.
The convertible name is due to the fact that these were for sale with or without the pickup. You could buy the pickup and electronics later if desired. I'm guessing that's the case with this one, as it has an aftermarket pickup.
