I put LaBella flatwound strings on my Jazz Bass yesterday after using nothing but roundwounds, ie Rotosounds, my entire life. I still have roundwounds on my 4001 since it does that ding ding bass thing very well. I kind of liked the flatwounds. Can't wait to use that on a track.

I have TI Jazz flats on my jazz-like-object. A Yamaha passive BBG5. I like it. I get a nice solid and focused nasally/burpy Jazz sound without the clank.

I also use TI flats on my passive Jazz. It really comes to life with the pickups switched to series. To me, my active jazz is more versatile with rounds.

I too have TI Jazz Flats on my Jazz and Precision basses. Really like them on these.

I've used the old Fender Stainless flats (long out of production) on my Jazz since I got it in the mid 90s. Despite the strings being ancient now, they still have a good amount of zing and brightness (for flats) and play just like I want.
They may never get changed at this rate!

I have a short-scale, "jazz-type" bass loaded with DiMarzio DP-123 pups and D'Addario Chromes on it. But then, I put those strings on pretty much everything. They're relatively stiff/high-tension, which is good on a short-scale (which all my basses are). With other string sets I've tried, the "E" often feels/sounds too "floppy".

For short scale stuff, I want Labella customs - the stainless sets (flats or otherwise) aren't badly priced at that point at all!
Standard on my Bass VI!

I have TI Jazz Flats on my EBMM Sterling and my Fender American Elite Precision and love 'em. They seem to have that something extra than other flats I've used. We'll call it overtones or musicality... I don't know for sure what it is but it's more than the normal flatwound thump, and I like it.

I've been using flats on my Jazz bass forever. I think I put roundwounds on for a short period and went back to flats. They just work better for me.

I have TI and Pyramid flats on both my basses. Not necessarily because of the tone, but because I am a terrrible bass player and my technique makes a bunch of finger noise with rounds.
Yeah, I know if I practice the bass more my technique will improve. However, I have no incentive to do so; what I can curently do with flats works great for my recordings.

I keep flats on the old 1981 Precision, and the fretless homemade Precision, which just makes sense. The Precision is just what it is, it has the active circuit which boosts the signal, the tone and volume pots just do what they do. A blind and deaf man could still tell it’s a P-bass. The flats do justice to the Precision, make it a bit more Precisiony.

Not so much of a Fender guy now , and I used to be more of a Pbass guy , but most of my basses have flats on them . I love Thomastiks on full scale basses , but prefer something stiffer on the shortscales I’ve come to prefer . Mostly LaBellas , but I’ve also tried GHS , Fender and some others . I like LaBellas the best . I do have several basses with ancient rounds , they almost sound like flats , and have several I do keep fresh rounds on .

You may miss the zing. But double up on the thump.
