I mentioned in another thread that I had a PRS SE Paul's Guitar on pre-order. I was getting cold feet and changed the order to an S2 model that was in-stock. It arrived on Saturday with a big dent in the body. The store was willing to give me $150 so I mulled it over the weekend. I decided to return the guitar so it's going back tomorrow. I still have the itch to get a PRS, but don't want to spend a ton. A lot of the ones I want are backordered but there are some (new and used) on Reverb. For now I'm going to slow it down and see what I can find on the used market. Here is the dent. Could you live with that? Initially I thought I would accept the discount but in the end I couldn't do it. I want to put my own dents in it!

If I bought it new probably no,
If I bought it secondhand and I knew about it yes
If I put the dint in there well then yes I could live with it

That’s a $250 dent in my book - if I thought the guitar was otherwise a keeper.

That's not a dent. It's a gouge. Maybe if it was on the back, but on the front? No way!

Peegoo could fix that with some joint compound and super glue in 5 minutes.
🤣
Sorry for the bad delivery. I ordered an Agile AL3100 in beautiful green similar to PRS Trampas(?) Green. It arrived with the headstock detached. The horror.

Nah: "new" means "new". To make matters worse, I'm fastidious even about used stuff. Finish swirls are fine, but deep scratches, chunks, gouges, excessive fret wear, missing parts and so on? No thanks. No love for weather checking either.
Mangled necks and headstocks are particular pet peeves of mine.

It is right in the arm rest area, too. That makes it a bigger nuisance.
Also, repairs on finishes like that are much more difficult. If it was me, I'd take a chance on steaming it out and finishing it with some glues/fillers after that. The color/visuals would suffer, but it would flush up and feel better under the arm.

Or sand it down to a more extreme forearm cut and paint that part pink.

$150? No way! $300? Probably so since I know I could easily fix it with bondo.

How did it play otherwise? I had an S2 Custom 22 a few years ago that I wish had a dent on delivery lol. Played ok, but never bonded with it, ended up selling...seemed lifeless to me.

Honestly it played OK. The fit and finish was superb and was probably set up well for most users. In my opinion the nut slots were a tad high but I would have fixed that if I was to keep it. I played it for about 30 minutes through my pedalboard and TM Deluxe Reverb and it started to grown on me. The neck was nice and meaty and the satin finish felt really good to my hands. The humbucker tones were great, especially with some drive. The split coils were OK. I'm looking for something as comforatble and light as my Strat, but sounds more like my Les Paul. My LP sounds divine, but it's not comfortable to me sitting down. I can easily live with my main trio of Tele, Strat, and LP. I think I have great examples of each of those. I hoped that a PRS would be a great all-arounder but I'm going to take my time to find a good fit. I have a nice P90 G&L with a 24 3/4 scale that can fill this role, but the neck is pretty thin to me. Really, I don't need another guitar! lol

too bad. if they went higher on the discount, it would have made sense to keep and you wouldn't have to worry about dinging it lol. I would check out some of the tributes Gibson used to do, not sure if they still do. I got a goldtop with p90s and it's a very light, no nonsense guitar.

That is a pretty bad bash.
It looks like the guitar was probably a return that the dealer sent out as new, which is cheesy behavior.
No way I'd accept $150 to keep it.

They took it back without question and even paid the return shipping. It arrived back at the dealer yesterday and I got my full refund today. I also just ordered the same guitar in sunburst from another dealer arriving this Saturday. I would have used the same dealer but they had none in stock. Hoping for better luck this time...
