I wore a t shirt with a VU meter on the front to the grocery today. A young guy asked about it, so I told him that before multi colored LEDs existed, we monitored amplifier output levels with them. He looked confused, so I said “It’s analog”. He replied “Oooh. Analog”, like I was from some quasi-mystical ancient cult. It was pretty funny, even if it did remind me that I'm old.

I'd rather watch needles moving than lights flickering.

The VU meter on my 70's vintage Pioneer receiver no longer works. It makes the whole experience of listening to music somewhat incomplete.

Oddly enough, I don’t have anything with a VU meter.

It would be cool to design a tee shirt with an actual VU meter that responds to your voice.
It could match well with my yet to be designed Theremin ballcap.

I don’t need folks staring at my moobs any more than they do.

Someone asked me once what VU stood for and when I said volume units he was...disappointed. I don't know what he expected.

"It would be cool to design a tee shirt with an actual VU meter that responds to your voice."
Unfortunately, it would probably be easier to do with LEDs..
