We East Coasters should have a front row seat.
It was cloudy all morning -- cleared up a little this afternoon. Now it's cloudy again.
I have my small telescope, a pair of bins, and my camera ready just in case.
We'll see.
This kind of thing doesn't happen every day -- if you get the chance you should take a look. Out here it starts around 11:30 PM and wraps up about an hour later.
Clear skies.

Got a front row seat, sitting in our driveway with Chickentails, perfectly clear skies.

Man, I need to sit out here more often. Some teenage girl just came weaving down the road like a drunk on her bicycle, on her phone. Stopped and took a selfie of herself flipping the bird to someone. 🤣🤣

Big ol' moon, shines like a spoon, it's up.
Kind of cloudy though, we'll see what happens.

Ended up with a nice view of the event. Total eclipse at 9:30, very cool.
I then went to bed. Got up at 2:30 and walked through the house. The moon was so bright it was as if a car was parked on the deck with its brights on and pointed at the window. You could read the newspaper by it. Also very cool.

It was a perfect night here, 79f and no skeeters in the front yard. The full eclipse was quite spectacular. I wish it wasn't past the grandkids bedtime and I had the chance to explain it to them. It coulda been a Grampa moment.

Seemed like just a partial from my left-coast vantage point.
Or maybe I just didn't watch long enough.

The overcast here gave way to wispy clouds -- and great viewing. It really was spectacular. There was no need for the telescope or bins but I wanted to get some photos. Ya think I might have checked the battery in the camera? -- nope. Dumbass.
I was wondering how the Flat Earth guys explain an event like this.
For the record, I don't (think) I know any flat earthers -- but doubt that many of them actually believe the earth is flat. I assume this is just an organized movement to poke a stick at the current scientific orthodoxy -- I can get behind that and appreciate the joke.

Wait...the Earth isn't flat?
Who told you this?
My understanding is that the Earth is actually inflatable and, generally, round.
It only looks flat when there's a slow leak and nobody remembers to to check the pressure and pump it back up.

It looks flat to me every time I see a picture of it from something in space. So, there's that....
