Paul McCartney played SoFi Stadium in LA last week.
An old friend attended the show.
It was nostalgia for him -- he was on the national promotion or A&R staff at Capitol Records way back when, and did an entire McCartney tour as label radio liaison.
This time he was in the stands.
#1 comment: $77 to pre-book one space to park his car(!)
^^^^^That pretty much summarizes why my days attending big shows is over.

Jimmy for shows at the LA Coliseum you can park on someone's lawn for a lot less. When we went to balmy summer evening Hollywood Bowl shows, we always took park'n'ride from Santa Monica. For $4 we got round trip bus trans and did not have to fight the LA traffic.

^ Having only been to LA once, and having driven (or been driven, technically, by friends) from Santa Monica to LA proper, I would say that bus trip might be worth significantly more than $4.
And if I recall it wasn’t THAT long ago that you lived there, we aren’t talking 1960’s pricing correct?

I was there summer 2016. I would have paid $20 for that bus rather than having to do that drive (if I was not being chauffeured).
We actually went from Santa Monica to Malibu to downtown LA that day. The drive to Malibu was maybe the most frustrating drive I have ever taken, and I have been driving around NYC for nearly 30 years.

Made the drive up into Malibu many times -- down the California incline from Ocean Ave onto PCH, north to Malibu. My favorite stops on the drive, the Getty Villa museum (home of the Getty antiquities collection), and Malibu Seafood restaurant. malibuseafood.com

Great atmosphere, overlooking the ocean. I mean really overlooking, like the waves were hitting the side of the outdoor deck, which had plexiglas on the ocean side for that exact reason. Personally, I didn’t think it was worth the drive, we had similar food where we were staying in Rancho Palos Verdes. But we did see Lindsay Lohan’s sister and father, and ate lunch next to Harvey Weinstein. We were there a week but I can honestly say I love Southern California. One of only two places I ever went to and fell in love with. Hawaii (the Big Island) was the other. But I didn’t want to work there, I just wanted to live vacation life there forever lol.

Uber congestion surcharge for a pickup after the sold out SciFi Stadium show would have been astronomical -- if you could have found a car altogether. You might still be waiting in the parking lot!

I just wanted to live vacation life there forever lol. That is my problem with Western Montana. The thing we loved about Santa Monica (besides the weather and the beach) is it is walkable. When we got there, in 1995, we purchased two condos, the second maybe 100 yards from the first, both five blocks from the beach. I used the second for work space so had SoCal's shortest commute. (I admit, these days, we'd be priced out of doing that.) Duke's is a tourist restaurant, Malibu Seafood really, a seafood strand with outdoor seating only, for dining (no indoor seating). You order at the counter, pay, and your buzzer goes off when the order is ready for pick-up. The Getty Villa is the real gem up there. Entry is free, but you have to make a booking for parking on site. We'd just take the bus up there from Santa Monica. It was 25 cents bus fare for seniors like us.

These stadium sized shows must all be a blur for Macca. As a performer, they're "sterile;" nobody staggers up to the mic demanding to hear Mustang Sally. No drunk chick "pin-wheels" into the drum kit. None of the players get smacked in the mouth by a drunk-propelled boom mic. Nobody tells you to turn down. There are no requests to play "happy birthday" for Frank. Or Earl. Or Louise.
Instead it's like ... one of the band members says, "hey Paul ... remember that San Francisco gig where the crowd sang along on 'Hey Jude'?" And he says, "like they've done at every performance in every city in the last ten years?"

Wow, knowing what high regard the majority of the Moe’s crowd holds the bug band, I would’ve thought no sacrifice would be too great to see one of them. Yet, no one is willing to toss a few bones to park?
Sorry Paul, the masses have decided to stay home and sing along to Hey Jude in their living rooms. Lol

I saw him right at the end of Wings when he could still sing. I saw him again in the late 90s. I give him great respect for still being out there doing it and selling out shows but his voice is all but gone. Not sure I'd want to sit through a couple hours of that although his band is incredible. I am a big Beatles fan but I won't go see him again.

That is my problem with Western Montana. Duke's is a tourist restaurant, Definitely was. Makes sense, our friends were only there about 2 years at that point and were kind of still tourists.

That’s at least four or five chunking lures to help me land some lunkers.
