That’s strange, I wasn’t aware that was even possible.
I’ve kept reptiles, had a black snake I named Gandalf. He was wild and very friendly. I released him after about 4 years, at the same place I found him. I decided I wanted to move him a little further from the road and as I approached he struck at me, first time, he never did that. He was happy to be home. I’ve never kept a reptile since. I waited at the edge of the road until I was satisfied he was heading in a safe direction.
I would never have thought a gator could be domesticated. A friend of mine watched an alligator use a road kill as bait to catch buzzards. I guess we still have a lot to learn about the reptile mind.
