She turned in her notice this week. Her birthday (Jun. 1) is also her last day of work. This ain't any old run-of-the-mill quittin'. This is her retirement.
During her final semester at Liberty U. (spring 85) the math dept. chair sent her to First Colony Life for an internship. That internship turned in to a job. Through all the changes and buy/sells, she's still there. Not for long!
You could say she knows where the bodies are buried and how much the claims paid.
I'm so proud of her.
I've got 2 - 3 years more to go. I'm basically working for the $ (of course) but also our health ins. I'll be 61 next week and she turns 60 on 6/1.
We're thinking of throwing her a big quitting party.

Congrats on her retirement!!!
They asked me to give a 3 month notice when I retired, so I did. It was a long 3 months. Being a huge company, it's not like I really hurt them all that much when I left.

That’s great. Enjoy the freedoms.
I got out a bit early. I retired at 59. I was eligible early because I had 30 years into the retirement system. I had pretty much spent the entire time I worked for the Public Health Trust preparing for retirement. Getting the house paid of, all financing paid off and had been putting away a portion of my pay every payday. We inherited one property, paid off the home we lived in, had cash to easily purchase the Farm outright. I made pretty decent money as a Bio-Med bench tech.

My wife left here job when we moved about 25 miles away. It wasn't worth the commute. That was July '19 and I don't think she'll pursue another job. She was in education (para) and I've encouraged her to stay away from that. Even in our old city (college town, super high average education), the schools were going to hell. She had way too many situations where she was seriously mistreated and the schools have no tools to punish the kids. They (the kids) run the show now.
We have a pretty good rhythm going now, so I see no reason to upset the apple cart. My biggest concern is that she's 54, I'm 58. I could retire right now, but the medical insurance is hard to pass up. I don't want to work until she's old enough for medicare though...

Though it used to be the norm, it's pretty remarkable now to see someone spend their entire working life at one company. She must be a survivor. Congratulations to her for a well-deserved retirement.

Had I realized years how great retirement was gonna be, I never would've gotten a job... I've enjoyed my work-life, for the most-part. But these days feel the strong pull of retirement. I'm looking forward to getting of this dime store pony myself.

COBRA was thru the roof but ACA was very affordable even with similar coverage. Take a look at that before you decide to wait it out. You could be living your best life retired at 58, Early SS is 62, full at 67- thats a lot of years while you are still young and healthy enough to be active. If you can afford it and medical is your only speed bump then take a look at ACA. You might be surprised.
