Although I gave up "going Greyhound" eons ago, my brother still occasionally takes the gamble. He didn't happen to be on the bus this morning when one person was killed and 5 wounded in a shooting, while the bus was enroute to LA from the Bay Area. At this point we don't know what fried the shooter's circuits, but since the driver was able to talk him into getting off the bus, it probably wasn't a hijacking. The shooter was arrested later without incident. He had left his gun on the bus. My brother's most recent "unfortunate incident" involved an unhinged passenger attacking the Greyhound driver and trying to wrest control away from him, as the bus careened down the freeway. A few of the more annoyed passengers, pried the idiot off the driver and used him as a pinata until the cops got there. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/six-wounded-california-greyhound-bus-shooting-suspect-custody-n1128581

I heard about this on the news this morning. Crazy.
I've ridden a Greyhound bus a couple of times, way way back in my no-money-havin' days. The only excitement I encountered was on one ride, there was a woman with a crying baby and she was slapping it to try and quiet it down (like THAT works...). I was in my teens; if I had been a little older and wiser I might've stood up and said something. Nobody did anything for about 10 minutes. But luckily for the kid, the bus driver stopped the bus, walked back, and calmly told the woman, "if you strike that infant one more time I will drive this bus straight to a police station."
Everyone on the bus applauded.

My wife's son and his girlfriend took the Greyhound across country a couple years ago. He said it was overall kind of fun, but they did stop at alot of pretty sketchy places.
Apparently, bus terminals aren't located in the best sections of town..

Apparently, bus terminals aren't located in the best sections of town.. When I was a manager of a consumer electronics store, we had to occasionally send off items for repair. Some items, such as high-power stereo receivers, had to be shipped off by bus, because they were too large and heavy for UPS to carry at the time (they subsequently upped the weight limits). The odor of urine pervaded the whole bus station.

When I was a kid, my parents put me on the bus to my grandpa's farm. Traveled from SoCal to Texas to stay with grandparents for the summer. When I reached 16 I put an end to that nonsense. Boy, was I stupid. I wish I had not resisted. Years later my grandpa passed away and it hit me very hard. I want those days back. I have his old pocket watch and look at it everyday.

Last time I rode a Greyhound bus was in about July of 1967 through the San Joaquin Valley from Modesto, CA to L.A. with a bad peach brandy hangover. Not exactly a fond memory.
BTW: peach brandy was what the girl wanted to drink, so who was I to argue?

I took a Greyhound from Omaha to Chicago once. I could have got there faster walking. I swear that thing made a stop about every 10 miles. There were some real characters on it as well.

Always loved the departure/arrival announcements at the bus station
"Bus now arriving from (or boarding for) mffft , mffft, mumble, mffft".
Bus station P.A. systems, evidently, made by same people who made them for fast food drive-throughs

Stevie Nick’s dad was President and CEO of Greyhound. He’s probably got a good idea on that.

I my youth I would do that. I learned that Trailways was a cleaner and better run outfit than Greyhound. And they did stop in all the bad areas, cause that's where the main customers lived.Had some interesting stories to tell.
