Wondering what everyone's preference is for whatever electric you play. I use Fender 9's. I am thinking of going back to GHS Boomers. An article I read recently mentioned they offer a little more resistance. I think I would like that. I used to use 11's on my LP when I was playing all the time. Went to 10's when I got a Tele. Now I use 9's on my G&l and PRS SE. you?

Right now my string of choice are regular ol' Daddario EXL120 9.5-44 on the Fenders and PRS. I use their 10s on my 24.75" scale guitars and Jaguar. I was getting the Daddario 9.5 for a little over $3 a set on Amazon for a long time. They're $4.99 now. I might experiment with 11s on the Jag as that's what you're "supposed to do", but it's not one of my main guitars and the 10s work well.
I was into pure nickel strings for a while but as I accumulated more guitars over the past couple of years I went back to Daddario's consistent quality and affordability. I'm scared to try something like String Joy for fear that I might like them a lot. I went through a few sets of Throback pure nickels. I liked them a lot but they ain't cheap.

I play bass, so...
Each bass gets a shot at 35-90. I do have some that have 35-95 and 40-95 (my Sterling HH is 40-55-75-95). I currently have 3 strung with 40-100, but I have those set up with lower action than the others because I do not like fighting my bass or playing bridge cables (and the 40-100 are on the line of that to my finger). Some basses don't play well with 35-90. Too bad, since it is my preferred gauge.
I am curious for the guitar guys; anyone here use the Dunlop 7's? I know Billy Gibbons likes them and I wonder how many players actually use them.

Guitar, I'm between preferred strings. Fender discontinued the ones I'd been using for over 20 years, their stainless rounds in the .10 set - a couple years back. I bought all I could find on the market at the time and am still running that stock until it runs out (sometime next year by my guestimate). I use them on everything except my two Les Pauls - I've used them there, and they sound good, but the LPs are the one time I've stuck with what's on them from the factory. They're magical instruments and came with oddball strings too, but thankfully they seem to last nigh forever. On those, they get Cleartone 9.5s (lower than I'd normally use, but...again, not messing with what was magical)
Jass and P bass I have the old early 90s Fender heavy flats (105 or so).
Bass VI a custom set of Labella stainless flats in .85 or so - they work well on the short scale and give zing back to the flats which I really like on the VI.

Fender - D'Addario 10's. Used Fender Bullets for a long time, but they got hard to find.
B-Bender Tele - EB Paradigm (which I see now have a 90 day warranty against rust and breakage).
Gibson - Ernie Ball 11's
Ibanez and other shred guitars - GHS or EB 9's
I used Boomers for years, like a lot of years, and I think that Ernie Ball strings have a slightly better "feel" when bending, but I can't say that I hear any better tone than GHS.
I also keep notes for which guitar got what and when they were changed.. occasionally I'll switch brands, but at this point I'm fairly content with my choices.
Having said that, I've yet to try something that made me feel that I had finally found the perfect set.

I have used GHS Boomners GBCL strings for as long as I can remember. They are a light top, heavy bottom set of strings. .009 to .046. I use that on everything but my Strat which I use Extra Slinky .008 - .0038. I just changed to the Slinkys about a year ago. When I was switching to .008's GHS didn't have any. It looks like they do now so that's what I'll get when I run out of Slinkys.

Ernie Ball slinkies, 9s and 10s. They're cheap, easy to find, and they last a long time for me.

I’ve been using Gibson Vintage Reissue nickel 11-50 for about a dozen years, since I got my Les Paul R8, which came fitted with the 10s version of those (I tune a half step down). I use those on all my electric guitars (2 Les Pauls and 2 Strats) since then. They were out of stock recently, so I tried a set of Ernie Ball nickels, and wasn’t happy with them. A couple broke pretty quickly, which hasn’t happened since I’ve been using the Gibsons, and thankfully the Gibsons were back in stock. On my acoustic, Elixirs have been a revelation I discovered 3 or 4 years ago, their tone stays bright and fresh literally for years.

I like Fender Original 150s. They're the brightest pure nickel string to my ears, if you don't count the ultra-premium varieties.
I usually use 10s. My philosophy on string gauges is that it should correlate with how hard you play. That is how they'll sound the best. If you have a very light touch, 9s will sound better than 11s with better clarity, harmonics and dynamics. If you're a basher or if you're doing an aggressive SRV sort of thing, 9s will sound wimpy, but 11s will have plenty of meat on the bones.
The challenge is when the sound in your head is for one string/playing style combination and your own playing doesn't line up. If I was playing more I think I'd experiment with going back down to 9s just to see if I can get a sound I like.

I dropped down to the current sizes to give my fingers a break. What I also got was some nice chord clarity I didn’t have before.

D'Addario 10s for as long as I can remember; on Teles, PRS, couple of Les Pauls and SGs...I kept a dedicated slide guitar when I was gigging regularly, so 11s on those. Also Elixir 11s for my Taylor acoustics. When I started playing live, mid '70s, I used 009s and a heavy pick but broke strings more than I'd want. Moving to 10s and a lighter pick solved that.

I use generally Ernie Ball, Fender or GHS strings gauged .009-.042 on my electrics, both Fender and Gibson classic scale lengths. I also like the Ernie Ball Cobalt sets. I do not use D'Addario strings because I do not like their packaging at all. In addition, their attitude seems a little too preachy.

At the danger of killing any thread I respond to lol. Usually D'Addario 10's. 9's on some guitars where it sounds/plays better, 12's on jazz guitars, 8's on scalloped. For 11's I used to get DR's, need to try them again.

I might experiment with 11s on the Jag as that's what you're "supposed to do", but it's not one of my main guitars and the 10s work well.
If you're in the mood for experimenting, get some flats into the mix - D'Addario Chromes 11s maybe. There are a handful of instruments that really turn into different animals with those and really shine, Jags & JMs among them. I love them on my Gretsch.

Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys (10-46). When I was gigging I used EB Power Slinkys (11-48) to counter the adrenaline. For my acoustics I use John Pearse 200L's.

Bass: 45 - 105 GHS Medium Scale Boomers on everything except the Rickenbacker, which has 45 - 105 DR Sunbeams.
Guitar: DR Tite Fit 10 - 46 on my electrics, except one Strat which gets 9 - 46 because it has a weird resonance with a 10 on the high E. The guy who got me started with them is now an advocate of D'Addario NYXL.

Started with .008's on my Strat '62 MIJ re-issue. Gradually went to .009's, then played a guitar teachers' US '62 Re-issue, and thought it played beautifully....asked what strings, etc., he td me .010's, set up by a local guitar whizz, here in Adelaide. I sent my '62 to him, asking to be set up "just like Mike's". Been using .010's ever since, on all my guitars. Preference is DR Pure Blues. I used Ernie Ball Slinkys for ages, but started to have issues with them unwinding, at the ball end. Switched to DR and never had an issue, since. With that in mind...here's my question...How many different string manufacturers are there? Mostly made in the same facility, or are there individual facilities for each?

I am pretty sure there are just a few manufacturers. That is half true. There are only a few manufacturers that make the wire that is used in making strings, but there are many, many string manufacturers. Or, that was true at one point. I'm not sure what the current landscape is. (factoid that I remember from Phillip McKnight)
