The RAY34 in particular. I like the look of the new sparkle editions.

I think I know the reason but I can't spell it.

I have a Daphne Blue 4HH. I think it is quite nice. It will eventually wear a blue pearl pickguard.
I wouldn't hesitate to get another one (and I just might with that GC LE Redburst 5HH).

I have a short scale ray on the way. Expect a NBD post this weekend!

I bought a Sterling USA model in 2004-2005. It was nicely built but the tone was very growly which I didn’t really care for. I understand now had I installed flats on it would have mellowed it a bit.

Different thing altogether. It does get confusing though. The thread refers to "Sterling by Music Man", which is a licensed sub-brand of Music Man instruments at a lower price range. The Music Man Sterling bass is a US-made instrument

So, my report: The Short Scale StingRay, SSR4, which is priced in between the Ray 24 and Ray34. Mine played very well out of the box, great setup, even the nut was well cut. It needed a small amount of fret dress but a complete fret sand and polish (they were well levelled and crowned but got nothing else). It has very versatile passive electronics just like the expensive US-made Short Scale StingRay. Sounds really good!
There were a couple of cosmetic issues. Some tool dings on the back of the neck, the tuner screws were installed by your drunk uncle, some fine scratches on the body finish, neck finish felt dusty rather than "satin", fret end filler is sloppy. Overall, I think it was a little overpriced for what I got. I recommend buying from a brick and mortar store where you can see what you're getting and try to negotiate the price down if required.

The Music Man Sterling bass is a US-made instrument I understand now they were talking about the original Music Man Sterling but to respond to the Music Man Sterling is a USA made instrument, my EB Sterling was US Made also and had incredibly nice Quality, Feel and playability. I now wish I had kept it and tried TI Jazz Flats on it. Didn’t think about that to curb some of the growl but had I thought to have done this I would probably still have it.
