I've decided to sell my Martin D42 and get a slightly smaller acoustic with a cutaway. I rarely play the Martin, partly due to the size. The Taylor 722ce and 724ce koa guitars caught my eye, they're beautiful guitars at a lower price point than the higher end Taylor koa's. And they sell for less than what I should get for the Martin. I don't have it yet, but I purchased what I felt was the nicest looking 722ce I could find online. Yes, in this case, looks are important to me. I'm going with the 722ce (Grand Concert) because it's a slightly smaller body than the 724ce (Grand Auditorium). Not posting pics yet, I'll wait until it arrives and make sure it's a keeper. But here's a link with specs, etc. 722ce

Nice looking guitar. I had to use the instrument model, V22ce, in the search. I didn’t see the guitar in your link..

I've had more problems with Sweetwater links on this forum, I think they've got some issues with their website. Anyway, the 724ce and 722ce are the newer koa models from Taylor, and most of them look great. I admit I'm not into acoustics enough to be able to tell the minute differences between all of them, so I went for a great looking one. No, it's not shown in the link lol. But if you come to the jam I'll let you play it if you want to!

I would like to try it out, I’ll have the Cordoba C9 Parlor with me, needs a string change.
I’ll be camping near the area, as it’s about 400 miles from home. My traveling friend is going to drive her RV to a park about 100 miles from the jam. An easier drive for me on the day of the event. And save some cash of a hotel room for two nights. Though the gas may not be much cheaper, Ive got to cover the gas in the pick up anyways. She had the RV with her last year, it was a bit further away but still better than the 400 miles to homeYes I would like to pay it. Looking forward to seeing you again!! The more, the merrier! I still have the fire starter you gave me the first time I met you. Start any fires “o) I can’t recall if I passed out any of the rawhide picks or not. I made a bunch of them, mailed them to members who wanted one. One member of the forum sent a bunch of old tortoise scoots which I cut, leveled and polished into vintage guitar picks. I was compensated for the effort with tortoise picks. I still have a couple. I’ve given a few away to good friends and those I’ld like to remember me. If I ever see Victor Wooten again I’d expect he’d forget the face but I can just about guarantee he’ll remember the Gator hide triangle bass pick holder that included a Tortoise shell, black ebony, Purple Heart, Sterling silver, copper and a standard plastic MOP logo pick. The last time I spoke to Victor he agreed that every one of the picks had a character that was a bit different, if I recall correctly he particularly like the cooper and tortoise. I was kind of surprised that he used picks.

I'm pretty sure I have one of your rawhide picks also. Unfortunately we've moved since then, and I still haven't located everything. I'm sure I'll find it some day!

Nice looking guitar. I had to use the instrument model, V22ce, in the search. I didn’t see the guitar in your link.. The link I posted does work if you try it more than once. The first time, it seems to go through several sites for some reason. Close that link and try it again and it worked, for me anyway. This happens a lot with Sweetwater links for some reason.

I guess there isn't much love for Taylor koa's here. I posted this same pic on FB and it got all kinds of attention. Here, on a guitar forum, nothing since I posted the pic!!! How would you guys feel?! But hey, thanks for all the great comments about my new guitar!!! Then, they wonder why there isn't much participation here!

Your Taylor is definitely beautiful and even more so in person. Thanks for bringing it over and letting me play it. It was fun to put it thru the Boss Katana on the acoustic setting and mess around with some reverb and delay settings. The neck feels great and the slightly smaller body feels a lot easier to get your hands around. I think you've got a winner and a great friend with this one Bill! Now, what are you doing here? Go play that thang!

Should I bring any set up tools with me? That wood is amazing. So how does it sound. Was the set up good.
A quarter of the body is missing though. Oh, yeah, electric guitar guys like access to all those tiny frets down there closer to the bridge “o). On my acoustics I really only need about 9 frets, the rest are just spacers for the scale length. In the folk/country scene it’s been said, “ain’t no money past the fifth fret.” Well actually they say above the 5th fret, but wouldn’t that be from the 5th to the nut.
As I get older I find that conversational logic just pisses people off. Musician’s logic references the higher pitch, ie up the neck to the 12th, but the top of the guitar is the “headstock” the other end is the bottom.
I think this heat wave is frying my brain. The only air conditioners are in the bedrooms.

Most trades or disciplines, initially utilizing contemporary language, have a tendency to rename, change or invent words according to their specialization, so nobody but the “click” know what their talking about. It’s also handy in identifying peers, from the posers /wannabes tying to pass or worm their way into the culture, with out paying the dues/experience it takes to be authentic.
Some one saying “that’s so rad”, in my neck of the woods is surely suspect of not being from around these parts. My dad was really good at detecting were someone was from. We’d be out for dinner and dad would say your not from around here, then ask them if they were from, say Pittsburgh, which is an easy one, and often to the Borough in the City.
It’s too bad Dad passed in his early 50s. Not that he could tell me much about what he did for the Air Force. He was OSI, chief of Counter Espionage in Europe when we lived in Germany from 1964-66. He never told me about the “Aliens” either. The only thing he could tell me was that in Alfred HitchChicken’s movie “The Eiger Sanction” there was an actor that played dad’s part.
If that guitar sounds half as good as it looks, you got a winner.*
* bringing it back to the discussion.

Should I bring any set up tools with me? That wood is amazing. So how does it sound. Was the set up good. A quarter of the body is missing though. No setup tools needed, it came set up very well! Unless you have a way to replace that missing body part. Thanks though! The seller, Haggerty's Musicworks, sent a checklist of items they went over, including checking every fret for buzz, etc. All I had to do was tune it up, about one full step. I'm no expert when it comes to acoustic sound. It's not as loud as my Martin, I expected that. And not as much bass. I would say it's more balanced. Plugged in, it sounds very natural, like my Martin with the K&K Pure Mini pickup does. Did they copy that pickup design? Maybe, except that it has EQ and volume knobs.

Cool, it’s nice when they’re set up the way you like. The Cordoba was like that too. I didn’t do anything to it. It’s totally acoustic, no transducers, it doesn’t even have strap buttons. I don’t plan on adding any. A cool thing about transducers is they are not magnetic, they will work fine with nylon strings. The K&K are pretty straightforward, basically just transducers wired to a female phone plug. Transducers are cheap, they differ in disks diameter. For lower frequencies you want a larger diameter, for a ukulele it can be a bit smaller diameter. I suppose it’s based on peak to peak or maybe just for greater signal strength. This ebay seller sells 50 15mm prewired transducers for $20.00. K&K is a nice package, three prewired transducers with the phone plug $109.00, after a little research though I decided to make them myself. www.ebay.com/itm/114629006832The strip transducer that is installed under the saddle is basically the same as those used to triggers the lights at intersections.

Yeah, sorry about that, I thought that maybe the “Oh, yeah, electric guitar guys like access to all those tiny frets down there closer to the bridge” Might of been a clue “o) I should of used a comma instead of a period.

Wow, that's a looker. I'll bet it sounds as good as it looks.
My 1st impression was "Snappy" and I rarely use that to describe anything.

I ignored the Taylor brand for 20 years because I had it in my head that the necks were too slender for me. But then I bought one recently because I wanted an all-mahogany guitar, and the Taylor all-hogs got rave reviews across the board.
Turns out the neck is great, and I love everything about the guitar. This guitar is trying to work its way onto my "lifetime keeper" list, and I think it's going to make it. Tremendous guitar!
And I have relearned this: Taylor woods are gorgeous, and their build quality is impeccable.

That's a beautiful guitar!
Looks very similar to my concert-sized AC3R in terms of playability and the Koa top is stunning.
Nice photo as well with a wide aperture to create depth of field, natural afternoon light and accurate focus on the sound hole and symmetric top-seam.

Update: Some have asked or commented about how it sounds or may sound. To me, it sounds great, but I think I mentioned, I'm certainly no expert on acoustics, otherwise I wouldn't have bought one online. I did read somewhere that koa wood takes longer to "break in" or "open up". Whatever that means, I decided to see if I could speed up that process. I purchased a ToneRite and started using it almost a week ago. Not because I don't like the sound of the guitar, but because I wanted to see if I could even tell when it "opened up". Any time I'm not playing the guitar, the ToneRite is working on it. (I can always sell the ToneRite when I've finished my experiment.) So far, my poor hearing cannot distinguish much, if any, difference. The guitar "may" have mellowed out, a little. I couldn't even swear to that.
What I do really like about the guitar is the size, the playability, and of course the looks. But, as mentioned, I really like the tone also, even though in that area, I'm not that difficult to please. I've grown out the fingernails on my right hand and I'm working on getting better at finger picking, also. Making some progress....
Thanks to all who commented on it!
