It’s Father’s Day in the UK next Sunday.
I want to buy and have installed a discreet pickup in one of LesTele’s old (25+years) beater acoustics.
He’s out playing again but the environment is getting a bit loud and everyone seems to be plugged in. Or so he says. LesTele is like a father to me.
Is it just as simple as ordering a K&K?
He wants discreet and permanent. No Woodys apparently.

He’s busy and actually playing out at the moment.
I miss him too.
I’m inflated sporadically.
It’s tough being an inflatable giraffe .
Edited to add that he appeared in the local paper this week wearing an Eminence Tone hat.

If he doesn't require a volume knob or EQ, the K&K Pure Mini is pretty easy to install, and sounds very natural. Or, I should say, it comes with very good instructions on how to install it. I didn't have any problem installing the one in my Martin.
The scariest part is drilling out the end pin hole a little larger, for the guitar jack that comes with the K&K. Slow and careful is the speed and technique I used. As for discreet, if it wasn't for the guitar jack, nobody would know there was a pickup installed.

The idiot’s just bought an Irish tenor banjo.
We’re not speaking.
walshhb - that K&K sounds ideal. Not sure if I’ll buy him one now. He may have to choose between his banjo and his giraffe.

The banjo thing may not last very long, but then ya never know. I probably went about 3 years not playing guitar, while I learned to play banjo. I was much younger though.

He’s certainly not young.
I think he’s doing it to annoy me.
He’s succeeding.

Hello Mr Giraffe,
Just to say, I’m pretty sure that when this subject has been raised before, someone (Peegoo maybe?) pointed out that for that type of transducer there is no “good” or “bad” make, they either work or they don’t.
I’ve got a K&K Pure Mini on my Taylor 355, and it sounds great. I think it cost about £120.
I’ve got a £10 generic Chinese version on my EJ200 and it also sounds great.
There are also some priced in between.

I put a K&K Pure Mini in my Guild D40 and it sounds great. I hate amplified acoustic guitars that sound like amplified acoustic guitars. The K&K sounds very natural. When I put an EQ and compressor on it, it sounds really good amplified. I installed it myself. It wasn't hard it just took some time.

Too many acoustic guitars with built in electronics just don't sound "natural" to me. Almost a plastic sound, I don't know how else to describe it.
