The last time I made an in-person Court appearance. That streak ends today.

FYI - pants are probably required. In this age of anything goes, I wonder if that's true...

Does your client have a leg to stand on ... for at least ten seconds?

FYI - pants are probably required. Nobody said anything about pants, but masks are required. Enforcement of that seems to be a little arbitrary this far.

What are you charged with? Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Just to clarify: Are you acting as "Counsel"; or are you the "Defendant". (Out of curiosity)

Counsel… unless he shows up sans-pants.

The last time I made an in-person Court appearance. That streak ends today. Lt. Kaffee is that you? p.s. Ask for a continuance! Keep the streak alive!

Yes, as counsel.
The good (or bad) news is, it’s the same as it ever was, I showed up ready, my adversary asked to postpone, and we have a December date to go back. Travel time 3 hours, appearance time 8 seconds.
I’m already back in a polo shirt and shorts.

But for 8 seconds your streak is intact.

Delay-delay-delay is a successful strategy for many things these days. The strategy was perfected by "the courts" years ago.

Travel time 3 hours, appearance time 8 seconds. I’m already back in a polo shirt and shorts. If I had three hours invested in it, I would've at least objected to his continuance request on the grounds that he could've done that WITHOUT showing up! "Your Honor (as I throw my hands up in the air), council has had months to prepare. Unless he has some unexpected mitigating circumstance, I must object to you entertaining his request for a continuance." Let me know if you need help coming up with some good lines next time. I'm up on all the legal jargon. My wife ropes me into watching Law & Order all the time. p.s. Do NOT wear a leather suit jacket to court, won't turn out well, and you might find yourself wearing a circus ring leader suit! I know, I also watched My Cousin Vinny!

A three hour drive back to court in snowy December is a double bad turn of luck. Prefer a nice spring day for three hour drive. And we all know that during December there will be 17 things that require attention in the weeks leading up to the holidays. Uggh. Sorry boss.

He barely had to ask, they started the calendar call by announcing that anyone who wanted an adjournment could have one. I knew I was screwed as soon as they said that. We have one judge locally who is VERY concerned about what lawyers wear during their online appearances. People were appearing while driving, wearing t-shirts, etc., so the Chief Judge put out a memo that everyone should treat it as a court appearance and dress accordingly. this one judge took it and ran with it and has made a habit of embarrassing people and pointing out that they aren’t wearing a tie or a suit jacket. And then he waits until they go get the proper attire and put it on before he continues. I got dinged once, meanwhile I had a shirt and tie on as I did from the very beginning of online appearances. One day it was no longer enough and he made me go get a jacket. Luckily I do keep one in the office. I did want to tell him “I wore this ridiculous thing for you”.

I had to testify for the prosecution as a witness to a road rage incident around fifteen years ago. I had no idea what was acceptable attire for a witness so I wore a suit just avoid any possibility of getting into the crosshairs of the judge’s ire. Lol

But I hope it’s 26 months and 9 days until I have to do it again.

Are you allowed to wear the dreaded tan pants? Probably not in December thou.... No that is not a thing here. Suits only, year round, in the courthouse.
