I can’t play that style at all. It’s gotten very popular. I’ve had three orthopedic surgeons over the span of my life tell me I’d never play bass, or guitar again. I grew up thinking slapping was reserved for the red headed stepchild.

Saw JoEl Sonnier play that song (along with "Tear Stained Letter" and many others) live many years ago with Byron Berline on fiddle. Albert Lee was also supposed to be there, with his Telecaster, but he came down sick so they had to soldier on without him. Great show, but missing Albert was a major disappointment.
Caught him later at another show headlined by Steve Morse Band at a different venue. He wasn't even scheduled to play that night but he filled in for somebody else at the last-minute. Pleasant surprise!
Funny how stuff like that works, sometimes.
