Moe's member hushnel made a bunch of rawhide picks for me a few years ago...I love them!.....but my next door neighbors dog has eaten most of them...(i swear its true!)...took me awhile to figure it out...lol....... I have about 5 or 6 left but they're just about worn out..
I like the rawhide because they're a bit on the thick side, have a natural texture to them so their easy to hold...and they can be easily shaped with a little filing and some sandpaper to get the edges a bit thinner...hard to explain...but I'm hooked on em....
I've requested more but he isn't able to get the right rawhide to make them..
I've got a huge assortment of other picks, Dunlop, Fender and god know what else...thick, medium, thin....but none of them come close to the rawhide ones..
I'm open to suggestions...
I wasn't sure where to post but, please move to the appropriate place if need be....

I've been using Dunlop primetone 1mm picks for the last 5 years and prefer them on acoustics compared to the green tortex (.88mm) that I use on my electrics.
I've about worn all my current picks down though so it's time for a reorder and thinking about upgrading to the bluechip TD40. I'm sure I'd love the pick the problem is they're like $35 and after I'm used to using it I'll have to buy like 5 of them to keep around in case I lose one so it really is an investment lol.

Great suggestions gentlemen...thank you!...I think I'm going to try the Loahnu's first......the Wedgie might be too thick for guitar......maybe someone else will chime in that they use them for guitar and love them......

Yo,Tequila Rob. I have an unused hushnel rawhide pick….and it sounds like you would enjoy a new pick. This one is well aged…I am not sure how many years ago that I got it….but it’s been many years. PM your name and mailing address and I will send the rawhide pick out to you.

They do look interesting. ok...so I bought a set of these on Amazon for 10 bucks...what the hell right?...while I don't remember seeing it advertised as such, they are slightly different in their firmness......its too early to give them a thumbs up or thumbs down until I can get them broken in.... that being said, I'm probably going to have to find a way to make them a bit stiffer.... they do have a nice vibe to them though....certainly different...

I was laying in bed last night before falling asleep trying to think of ways to stiffen them up...lol... Years back I would be stumped on a problem or how to do an electronic circuit. While asleep I would suddenly wake up in the middle of the night and the answer to the problem just slapped my brain nearly out of my head 😁😉

Ok, so I found this company called Bog Street. I wasn't sure which of their pics I would like so I bought one of their mixed assortment for 35 bucks with 15 picks..........very nice...there were only 3 out of the bag I didn't care for...the 2 Leap series and one of the 3 mil thick ones.......just too thick for my test...but all things considered I really like em......almost as much as the rawhide hushnel pics...;-0 and a shout out to Wish, who sent me one of his rawhide pics...thanks again bud!

its interesting how different picks affect your tone drasticly. I go back and forth between dunlop orang 60mm and fender mediums.

I bought a set of these. Supposed to arrive after the 19th I think you’ll like them. There is a noticeable difference between the three samples. I like the white one with my tape wrapped strung Gretsch. The light grey for my flat wound strung LB100, and the dark grey with my Spector Euro4.

I’ll make an effort to find a rawhide with proper thickness. I paid decent money to have the pick punch made up to my specs.
I made up a bunch of tortoise shell picks at one time. They turned out great. Easier to control the stiffness of the finished pick. They are tricky though, it’s legal to own them but selling one can get ya in a bit of trouble.

I've done a lot of looking myself......even though I don't have a pick punch, if I could ever find the right rawhide, I could probably swing it.......but I've got 5 or 6 left from the batch I got from you,(neighbors dog ate the rest...grrr!) plus the one that Wish sent...its in really good shape..
over time I found myself modifying the ones I got from you somewhat....with some rough sandpaper along the edges to put a taper on them, and then I hit it with some fine sand paper to smooth out any imperfections left by the course sandpaper...they came out great
I also bought a set of the Bog Street picks...I like them alot...and a set of the deer rawhide that are still on the way...
I still favor yours......and of course if you ever can produce a bunch, you can certainly count on me for some....

I’ll keep my eyes open, I used a bit of clear coat on the raw hide picks, to help avoid softening due to humidity. Initially I was cutting out the picks with a pattern and scissors. Once I determined they were a viable product I ordered the custom pick punch.
The tortoise shell picks took a lot more time and effort. I usually don’t go looking for materials for projects as often as the material inspiring the project. The rawhide sides are not usually of a property thickness for picks, the hides themselves are not of a consistent thickness throughout the side.
I’m heading up to the Atlanta Jam on Thursday, in the past I’ve made up projects as a kind of party gift. I didn’t make up anything for this one. Nothing came to mind. Possibly because I had to make up a enough business cards to pass out and I’m in one of my knitting phases.
When I get back I have to build a cigarbox guitar for a good friend who wants to give it to his guitar playing buddy, who does much of his recordings. He started working on me about two or three ago but I haven’t had the proper mindset to get it done. I do now. All the parts I can’t or don’t feel like making are ordered and arriving today. Most of the parts are Telecaster style. I built one for Albert Castiglia, a good friend of mine from Coral Gables. I know he uses it from time to time.

You know, I love playing guitar, but I'm much happier when I have a project.....so satisfying to create.....part of me wishes I still had all of the tele's I've put together and sold....but then I'd have more guitars than I know what to do with...
