Nice work. A few needed repairs, with more possible down the road (if he thinks the guitar is worth the investment; looks like it was a Washburn from the headstock - nothing high end).

Pointing that heat gun at the bridge while the plastic saddle was still in got a laugh out of me. That was almost a fun blooper reel.
Fun to watch, but did some odd things along the way, so wouldn't use this as an instructional video... otherwise fun to watch her feel her way through a new process.

I wouldn’t of popped the bridge off like that, it could of lifted the grain, a bit of twisting would have done it, or heating up a flexible putty knife. Not that I’m any kind of luthier, but certain tool/material logic is always relevant.

Not that I’m any kind of luthier, but certain tool/material logic is always relevant. “This Video Got Me Dumped” kind of tells the story. “O/ If you read the grain direction, you can find the safe direction. It is a bit like when using a bench plane - go in the right direction and it is very smooth, the wrong direction and you're going to dig into the grain. If it changes direction a lot... then be careful. If you look at a top and you see the color changes a bit when you move it back and forth, and that the two halves of the top work opposite, that's the grain run out. If you see it darker, you're looking into the grain, and that is the way you won't want to send the knife. Do it in the right direction, and it is pretty easy to avoid digging in. Usually you can tell by how the knife feels if you're digging at glue or wood, too.
She was coming in from the side, and it kinda looked like her plan was to slowly loosen it 360 degrees around, which is an acceptable method (I think this is the M.O. for Taylor factory repair), but not my favorite. They do sometimes pop off all of a sudden like a jack-in-the-box, and it looks like that is what happened to her.

I’m defiantly grain oriented. I was a union carpenter for a time. Took wood shop every year in public school, metal shop too. Later I spent my summers in a friend’s dad’s cabinet shop outside of Philly, we made Dental machinery shipping crates for the U.S. armed forces.
Built my first acoustic bass guitar at the age of 9, it imploded when I strung it up* “o). A lot of learning in failures.
* convinced my Dad that I was serious about playing bass. Him and mom got me the Framus electric Bass guitar that Christmas. Still play it 58 years later. I didn’t get an amplifier until my 16th Birthday.
