Can anyone tell me why a manufacturer would use two different types of mahogany on the same guitar? They seem quite proud that they use Brazilian Mahogany for the neck and Honduran Mahogany for the body. Maybe the Honduran is lighter for the body and the Brazilian stiffer for the neck?

A quick google search tells me both are the same genus... Honduran Mahogany colloquially refers to a specific genus and can be used to describe it from any number of places. Brazilian is farmed and presumably more plentiful.

Probably marketing, for several reasons.
-We're not completely decimating the Brazilian rainforest because we also use mahogany from Honduras
-Is Brazilian better? Or Honduras? You have the best of both places
-Wood prices fluctuate, so the lowest cost dictates the source
etc.

Yes, marketing and availability are likely the main reasons for their choices. Guess I was hoping for some magical tonal synergy behind the pairing.

Reminds me of a clip I saw from Mad Men... they suggest to Lucky Strikes to say "It's Toasted!", even though everyone knows all tobacco is toasted before being rolled into cigarettes. Some people just really like going crazy with spec sheets and fluffing it.

Maybe supply issues like everything else?

It really does say "IT'S TOASTED" on the pack.

I don't think I've ever worked with Brazilian Mahogany. It's always been Honduran.

I'll be on the lookout for some "Toasted" mahogany. Maybe it's the new baked maple!
