Seeking help from the experts here. I have a Taylor 410ce that I want to fit another endpin jack a little further down from the existing jack. I want to leave the original battery holder/jack in place and I'll still use that for my strap. I'm wondering if it's okay to drill a 1/2" hole maybe an inch or so below that so I can install the jack that came with my K&K Double Helix soundhole pickup. I got a 1/2" Forstner bit for the job and will put a piece of painters tape over the work area. Other than the guitar cable, I won't be placing any strain on the jack since my strap will be over the existing end pin jack. Any thoughts?

Is there a reason you're keeping the old one, except just for your strap? You can get little hardwood pieces that will screw in over where the battery box was that you can install the new endpin jack into. That would be my preference. I'm not entirely sure where you're referring - if you're following the side wood around to the treble side, you'll very quickly run out of tail block material and you'll just have side wood there. That is never ideal, and I wouldn't like a bulky endpin jack installed into that. IF I had to do it that way, I'd change it over to a regular panel jack, but neither of those would be my favorite method. Also, a forstner bit isn't the best. I like step bits (unibits) after making a careful pilot hole. shawwoodshop.com/products/expression-system-retro-kit-taylor-acoustic-guitars

I thought about the tail block and thin side wood. So maybe I'll get the retro kit and have an experienced luthier do the job.

Sure you can.
I wanted straplocks on my J45, but the strap button doubles as the output jack. So I installed the straplock button an inch away from the original jack button. It works great.

I've decided to just remove the ES2 system (battery compartment, preamp and body sensors) and use the Shaw Woodshop plugs. Thanks funkykikuchiyo . After searching YouTube, it seems like a simple install.
