I’m impressed with the original demos of the HDRX amp, but I really don’t need an expensive high-powered beast. Even the 50w version is more than I want. CME is taking pre-orders on the HDRX 20 heads now with an ETA (emphasis on “estimated”) of Nov. 10. I never preorder gear, but I did this time. I don’t mind the wait. I’d be surprised to see it by the end of the year. I also have confidence in CME. They’ve always treated me right. prsguitars.com/amplifier/hdrx_20_2022I’m stoked! I’ve been prowling for a Marshall SV20 head. I believe the PRS will have “more” of what I’m looking for.

I've played through a few, and they do sound great.
The one that really impressed me, however, is the MT15 (Mark Tremonti 15-watt head). I'm not necessarily a Tremonti fan, but the amp sounds HUGE. Clean or dirty. It has buckets of clean headroom, and when the gain is cranked it can get as nasty as you need.
Both these amps are really good if you are the kind of player that plugs straight in with no pedals, because they are very touch sensitive.

It’s here!
I won’t get to try it out until tomorrow. Just got back from Charlottesville.
I’ll give it a proper go tomorrow.

Awwwww yeeeeeah!
This is a tremendous little amp for the tones it’s shooting for. It’s one of those “I can’t stop plying this thing” amps.
The MV must be PPI, I’d guess, as it does justice at lower volumes.
I spent most of my time with the volumes dimed, the MV half way up, and bass and treble around 5 and mids around 7. The presence control is a nice touch for some extra bite. I was playing though an Mojotone oversized 2x12 loaded with Jensen Blackhawks. Serious Marshall rock tones!
The amp is quite touch sensitive. For as much gain as it has dimed and in the high gain switch setting, it cleans up fairly well. Mid gain setting - even more so.

If this is a take on Jimi’s favorite Marshalls they’ve done it well.
The pair of amps he seemed to gravitate towards were a pair of JTM 45/100s. There was a tone stack mod, as well.
One of the things I noticed immediately is that this amp -even though it’s 20 watts - can produce the deep/bass tones of the JTM45. They used 5881s in this amp, and the output section seems to take what the front end can dish out.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m glad I bought this instead of the Marshall. 🫢

Assuming it's a MIA amp, or did it get offshored?

At this price point it has to be offshore.

Yea, that's my guess given they're not listing "made in ..."

All of my Marshalls were made offshore. 🇬🇧

PRS has a factory in China that makes these, the Sonzera line, and several other models. There have been some growing pains (reliability issues) in the past with this operation, but for the past two years or so, those issues have been ironed out and the products appear to be much better than when production began.

For me it's just a hair much for a 20 watt offshored.
It's not so much I have an issue with same (all of my amps are!), just a case of "country of origin factors into the price paid."

I would have waited and bought a used one and let someone else take that initial hit. That’s my usual MO. This amp stoked my fire enough to forgo that.

I would normally agree with Leftee….but, I think that things have changed in the last few years.
Back in the day, the “going price” for used amps over here used to be about 50%-60% of the new price, and they lost 40%-50% of value as soon as they went out the store, but nowadays I see a lot of used amps going for 70%-90% of the new price and I’ve even seen some listed for *more* than the new price.
I think you made the right choice in this case :-)

Even if I made a bad choice, it was the right choice. 😜

I watched the Peach Guitars playthrough of the HDRX 20 and the Robben Ford signature guitar. Paul was there too as it was also an interview. Both sounded great.
