A gentleman I do some collaborations with has been using one for ages and raves about it, and I found a demo for $100 off of list to test out.
We'll see how it fits in my stable of toys.
Was going to be bagging a 1073 clone soon, but ...if this thing works it'll be the last "basic" item for the mic locker to replace the dirt cheapies I've slowly phased out over the last few years.
Still been using a hand-picked (out of a case of 24 of them) MXL large dia condenser on my HRD fulltime for ages; it hit stupid well above its price point and that particular one sounded the best out of all the ones I tested.
My local shop at the time put up with me testing them all and let me mix and match out of the crate they had ordered.
The pencil condenser that came with the set has always been an extreme backup case - I have good ancient Oktavas for that role when I want it, but the large dia condenser and I always got along.
Was a case of checking off the boxes slowly.
Got the e906 for lazy hang on the cab and "best in class" dynamic mic for when I want that punch, the Oktavas for what makes me happy when nothing else does, and the Golden Age ribbon thing for the room now for half decent stuff (and a Telefunken M81 for a female vocalist I work with occasionally, been very happy there)....I can't say I'm "done" if this works out but I'll certainly have the bases covered.
It sucks being the only person on earth who doesn't love the SM57/58 (but I don't really like Celestion speakers for cabs either, so I'm an odd duck!)....

Good luck with the new mic. I love large diaphragm condenser mikes. Can't get enough of them. I still like using a MD421 on guitar cabs for a dynamic mic option but I like SM57's as well. I have even used an AKG D12E along with a MD421 with good results but it's very dependent on the speakers in the cab. Sounds good on the vintage Jensen C12N speakers in the BFTRRI but doesn't work on the Celestion Greenback in the AC15H1TV. It may have something to do with being able to place a mic in front of each speaker in the Twin and being able to get a little distance between them. The single speaker in the AC15 may make the mikes have to be too close together. I need to work with that some more to find out. As you know, mic placement on speaker cabs is paramount in getting a good sound from them. Moving in very small increments can make a huge difference.
I have a Great River MP500-NV 1073 clone and it is incredible. It's the 500 Series model of a ME1-NV. Absolutely MONSTEROUS! It has that huge transparent mid range and bottom end of a Neve or BAE but the top end is more pronounced. About 8kHz and up. A big and open sound. To me it sounds bigger than the Neve or BAE. If you see a possible need for adding more recording gear I highly recommend getting into the 500 Series stuff. It's the same devices as the 19" rack mount stuff in a smaller footprint and it's considerably less expensive than its big brothers. You'll have to buy the 500 series rack with the power supply but you can get a used 6 spaced rack from $300 to $400 on Reverb. After that you start adding modules. If you like building electronic stuff you can buy kits for the racks from Capi and save some money.
I kind of stumbled into the 500 series stuff by accident but I'm glad I did.

I've avoided the 500 series stuff thusfar just because I'm not space-short at this point and I don't buy a ton of module stuff.
I associate it more with modular synth stuff than recording gear myself.
If I could wire still at that level, I'd be all over doing them...but my short-distance depth perception has been poop since the hospital in 2012 that cost me one retina. Still have peripheral in that eye, but short-range depth perception is AWFUL.
Soldering is UGLY. Component assembly, no, I'd rather not butcher it.
Realistically I'm at a point where adding a 500 series case would be like buying another rack. I'd just get excuses to fill it!

Arrived today, but the demo is missing the thread adapter for the shockmount.
Talked to Sweetwater, they'll be taking care of it, but...it's not worth doing a "test" until I have the full kit in hand and it doesn't fit my other basket so...
