When I play my guitar straight into the amp there is no problem with using the volume or tone controls on either my strat or my 335, but when I add my Boss FBM1 Fender Bassman pedal to the chain as soon as I adjust any volume or tone control on either guitar I get a scratchy sound similar to a dirty pot in fact I just need to hold the control and not move it to hear it. As soon as I have adjusted the control it stops.
I thought at first it was a dirty jack socket in the pedal but after opening it up they both look okay. The fact that just holding the guitar control causes it as well leads me to suspect that it might be on the earth side but as soon as I have made the adjustment it stops. It doesn't affect the sound of the pedal it plays fine, just this irritating scratchy pot sound when adjusting and only when the pedal is a part of the signal chain. As soon as I disconnect the pedal and plug in straight to the amp my guitar controls are silent when adjusting. Does anyone here have any idea what could be causing this?.

There’s most likely a fault with the pedal. eg faulty coupling cap at the signal input allowing DC to leak into the guitar, or pedal is not fully stable such that it flips into ultrasonic oscillation at certain settings of it / the guitar. A possible cause of the latter may be a bad decoupling cap.
Alternatively, it may be related to how is the pedal being powered. Try a fresh battery.
