Bought a cheap $30 set of new Fender vintage style tuners for a neck swaperoo on my pseudo Bari (Squier body, Warmoth neck). Started stringing it up and the low E just slips and pops. Clearly stripped inside. Never had that happen before, no extras in the bin. Message sent to Reverb seller, man I hope they can just send me a single instead of having to uninstall the whole set/bushings, echhh...
I guess they're cheap for a reason...😕

Bad manufacturer QC. It happens.
Remember the difference between a good vendor and a bad one is not defective merch; it's how well the vendor treats the customer when defective merch gets into the pipeline.
Please keep us posted!

Yeah, I've run into that problem somewhat often... also when they kinda lock up at some point in the rotation.

Yeah. There are fancier versions, but part of the appeal of those old tuners is that they're light weight so I'm not sure if you can ever have your cake and eat it too with that design.
Gotoh has an open back version, kinda Waverly-ish, that I'd love to try some day. It might be a good alternative. They're a little hard to find last I checked, though.

I went off vintage style tuners a while back. I don’t like pressing in bushings and I never liked the way they felt. I never had one fail, though.

I've always liked the vintage style. I find them really easy to string and generally reliable. I think this version is just lower quality.

After some slow back and forth the seller is sending me a replacement tuner. That is what I had hoped for as opposed to uninstalling the whole set and sending it back.
