Have been pondering the use of an eq pedal, like a Boss or MXR eq pedal after chatting to a fellow bass player.
Has anyone here used one and what beenfit did they get from it ?
Thanks

No. My amps have low, high and semi-parametric mids. That is usually enough for me. Most of the time I run the amp pretty flat. My choice of strings result in my basses sounding pretty much how I want without much eq. TI flats and DR stainless Lo-Riders. When using the basses with flats, I might slightly boost the mids about around 1.5k about 3-5db for just a little more attack. I use mostly finger-style and rarely a pick on a couple of songs.
Sometimes I'm use a Zoom B3n multi-pedal. Not much EQ shaping there either.

I used a Boss GE-7 and did not like it. A lot of hiss. I have an MXR. It is Fabulous except for two things. It only works on an 18 Volt DC Wallwort AND the L.E.D.'s will blind you. Sound is extremely good though.

Agree with the above regarding the 10-band MXR (which is the one I also use). There are various manufacturer's power supplies that include at least one 18-volt output. Unfortunately, I bought my Strymon before I had any 18-volt pedals so I use a wall wart for that one pedal. If I ever buy a second pedal that requires 18 volts, I'll probably upgrade my power supply at that time. I have the "gain" slider and 31.25-250 sliders all the way up and a pretty symmetrical "smiley face" setting of the sliders from 500-16K. That's when running a Guild Starfire Bass into a Carvin MB10 combo amp. In conjunction with the MXR, I also use the older version of the Hartke VXL Tone Shaper Bass Attack Pre-amp pedal, which allows for addition tone tweaking. An MXR bass compressor is the only other pedal on the board, since I'm not big on effects. Being a converted guitar player (as of about 2013) I try to focus on becoming a decent, "proper" bass player (as opposed to someone who plays a bass like a guitar) and don't find the distraction of multiple modulation/distortion effects to be particularly helpful in that regard.

I've got parametric EQ in the rack, and a Pultec EQ clone there as well for the push/cut/pull pop that a regular parametric won't do.
Absolute secret weapon for guitar, bass, synth, ANYTHING.
