A good read, thanks.
That guitar needs to be in the Smithsonian when the time comes.

Thanks for that! Great article. Looks like a he uses steel strings. This reminds me- years ago I got a call from a Marine Corps buddy who asked me if I still play guitar, and would I like an acoustic? Sure I said, whatcha got? A beat up Seagull was the answer. I was playing Seagulls then so I was happy to get it. It looked like someone let a toddler loose on it. Tons of scratches, a hole in the lower bout, play wear. I had it repaired and it quickly become the best sounding Seagull I had. I dubbed it “Willie”, in honor of Trigger. I was mostly electric in those days so a Seagull was fine, and the others were sold. Today I lean acoustic for home and play electric at church, and my wife blessed me with a Martin 000-28 two years ago. I love it, but I still have Willie when I want to play a dread sized guitar. Here’s “Willie”- flic.kr/p/2o68J1r

That article is nearly ten years old, but it's still a good read, and I imagine nothing's any different now except there's more play wear on both Willie and Trigger. There's also a YouTube video I've seen somewhere of Dan Erlewine giving Trigger a checkup. I think it's in two parts. (the video, not the guitar).

Yeah thanks, that was great. My phone’s screen saver is willie’s hand camped onto Trigger’s sound hole, for at least the last 10 years.
It’s been a year since I purchased the Cordoba C9 parlor, I feel the same way about this guitar. A year later I’m just amazed by this guitar, every time I pick it up. My Martin 00015S, 0015, the American standard Telecaster, the Yamaha classical, the Kremona classical have not been touched since the Cordoba came home.
It’s crazy, I purchased it used from a Guitar Center in North Central USA, a solid Canadian cedar top and solid mahogany back and sides, the C9 Parlor has a reduced 7/8 body size and 50mm nut width. I got it for around $450, the list price today is $1,337. Another huge benefit is I can play this instrument all day long and never suffer any pain or cramping in either hand, both of which have suffered serious trauma, including a surgeon telling me I’d never play again.
When I get ambitious, I’m going to sell every thing else, other than a few of my basses. Mt Dora has a musical instrument swap meet a few times a year at Renninger's Flea Market & Antique Center. Probably sell off a few amps too.

Seeing that the article is so old, I wonder if Trigger has had a refret. Willie seemed pretty adamant about not doing it, but at what point is the guitar unplayable?

I would think he gets to a refret or retire it situation at some point.

There's also a YouTube video I've seen somewhere of Dan Erlewine giving Trigger a checkup. I think Willie uses Mark Erlewine as his tech; he's in Tay-hass. Remember the Chiquita guitar? That's Mark's baby.

Great article! There's a guy around here who's been doing a Willie Nelson tribute for years. He owns and plays his guitar through a Baldwin C1 Custom amplifier just like Willie's. He even crafted a look-alike hole on his Martin acoustic and his guitar is covered with signatures. He does a good job. His last name is Burns and the vanity plate on his van reads "Burns 1".

I finally got around to watching the 30th Anniversary Dylan Concert from 30 years ago. Trigger looked like it was about to explode into a pile of toothpicks then!
