I finished assembling and soldering my new scratchplate today. I haven't put the strings on yet just have the loaded scratchplate in place on the body with no screws in yet. On plugging in the lead from my amp it is very quiet no hum at all. Testing lightly with a screwdriver the bridge and middle pick up and the in between position work well with both volume and the bottom tone control. The neck pick up works well with the middle tone control all the way open but when I turn the tone control down it reduces the volume and actually cuts the volume at 0 on the tone control. I have wired it exactly as it is shown in the diagram below. I am very happy with the middle and bridge controls but am unsure whether the controls are working properly on the neck pickup?. Any advice/opinions gladly accepted.

Start double checking your work.

Absolutely correct sir, went up this morning in the fresh light of daylight and saw that I had wired the capactor wrong. Instead of going B2 > M1 with the one leg and then the other leg to ground on the back of M I had done the opposite and connected the one leg to M1 and then ground with the other leg going to B1. Lesson learned is at 73 when you get a wee bit tired stop.

Yeah, when something isn't right, I often walk away. It's been the single biggest lesson I've learned in my guitar-building endeavors.
Glad you got it sorted. It feels good, doesn't it?

When I run into stuff like this, I get a 2nd set of eyeballs on the schematic and on my work.
Even an inexperienced person (usually a reliable but totally smart-aleck kid!) sees where I goofed.

Indeed. A quality schematic will yield the intended results, so if it's not making the expected noises, then you made an error.
Which is why I don't drink and solder.

I should start a new enterprise.. "Have Soldering Gun, Will Travel." Fewer and fewer people are doing it. You'd make money. I'm one of the only people around here that knows how to use an O-scope, and I'm not that much of an expert with it.

I would love to be a guitar tech for a touring band, but then again I would have to leave the house.
The nearest Guitar Center is always in need of a tech, but that would be a 2 hour round trip.
A lot of musicians dream of working in a guitar store but if you've spent any time in one, you know...

^^^^ And building guitars is fun.
When it's a job, it's...a job!

My buddy is in a band that tours nationally.. I build his guitars, so I guess I get to live vicariously through that.
