I'm familiar with BF and SF era Fenders - they're not clean at any of those stage volumes "acoustically" or otherwise. The Plexis aren't either. There's a TON of THD going on. On this, you're wrong, pure and simple. gota disagree i hear my amp when i turn the guitar down 1 or 2 notches and its acusticly clean. your wrong pure and simple

If you want gain and distortion buy a Marshall.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to conflate an amp’s distortion of signal levels within its linear range (ie as per hifi and pro audio gear ratings) with overdrive clipping distortion. The latter is user controlled, whilst the former is not. And guitar amps, especially valve type, are simply incapable of the sub 1% distortion levels. Even if they were, the speakers used are designed to add harmonics, ie distort.
I suspect that the peak level at the attack of the signal envelope of a guitar is so extreme (eg maybe up to 10x the ‘sustain’ level) that most guitar tones that we perceive as clean are a probably overdriven a bit during the attack.

^^^That is true.
Virtually all recordings of guitar that we all know and love as "clean" do contain a significant amount of distortion. It's what gives the sound that sweet musical character.
Examples of this include Jimi Hendrix's playing in the verses of Hey Joe, Mark Knopfler on Sultans of Swing, and Lenny by Stevie Vaughan.
Perfectly clean sine waves are not very musical at all; they are pure pitches. For an example of this, check out the 3:00 minute mark here:

Back in the '60s a friend of my brother ran his sister's guitar (Strat, maybe) through his MacIntosh/Klipsch stereo system, just for fun. It did not sound like rock 'n roll.
