I’ve been watching footage from CCR’s Woodstock performance and marveled at the tone John Fogerty got from his Kustom K-200 A4 setup. The semi-hollow Rick probably helped to get the controlled feedback from his rig. Those early Kustoms were solid state but the “normal” channel had an interesting harmonic clipper distortion and frequency boost circuit. Nice distortion sound from a solid state amp from back in the day.

I've played a bunch of them on and off and I just couldn't get myself to sound good.
May have been the processing/desk stuff on his gear, I love how he sounds but...I can't replicate it with that stuff and I *love* SS amps!

I had an early 80s Kustom Lead 3 Sc. Their version of a Twin Reverb. Never got a good tone from it.

The only thing of that era of SS I could get something that made me happy out of it was the Sunn stuff - I had a Solos II 2x12 that was louder than sin, heavier than death, and had a pristine trem and verb circuit.
Dirt onboard was worthless, of course, but that's what pedals were for!

I had a Coupe 40 (1x12) combo 15-20 years ago That I liked pretty well. That’s my only experience with Kustom.

Played a LP straight onto a single 15 Kustom bass Amp at a jam. It sounded great IF it was died. Real loud though.

I once came very close to buying an all-valve Kustom 36 Coupe. The only thing that stopped me was it had shared eq across the channels and in those days I relied on channel switching more than pedals. It wouldn't be a problem now.

Is ‘A4’ the K200 version that he’s using? Any idea where (free) schematics might be found?

Many years ago there was a shop in downtown Tucson, AZ called The Chicago Store that touted itself as a musical instruments joint.
In reality is was a junk shop, and while they had musical instruments (in the technical sense), everything was ancient, rusty, covered with a layer of dust, and nary a name brand anything.
Except for a 20' wall with a bunch of old tuck-and-roll Kustom PA, bass and guitar amps and speaker cabinets, all stacked up willy nilly. They all looked played hard and then neglected, and were CHEAP. But in the 90s and early 2000's nobody wanted them, hence the junk pile.
They would be a thing today, I guarantee.

Now that you mention it, I think that’s one I had. I just remember it being a 1x12 tube amp. Hey, I got the “Coupe” part right. Lol

The hipsters love that cheesy crapola.
