It's a bit pricey, at $3,499, at least for me.
Hows about you?

I like the head version but with the combo, why do they keep using the Celestion Black Shadow? I know it has the power rating but that is an Awful speaker! It doesn't sound good in an open-back cabinet. I have tried breaking it in and mine just sounds anemic and doesn't carry the lows at all. I have a few Mesa combo amps that are high powered and they almost always use this speaker. I have tried many different speaker types and have found that the Eminence Texas Heat works best for the open-back amps put the Black Shadow speakers in a 4X12 cabinet. They still lack depth and are a very midrange to high emitting speaker! With a few tube changes to my open-back amps, along with the Eminence Texas Heat, the amps sound alot better. It took me quite a while to learn the EQ settings on my Mesa amps and found the Black Shadow speaker just couldn't be dialed in. It may have the power rating but I wish that Mesa would find a better solution for their open-back amps! What has anyone else found to work for you? You wouldn't think that the Mesa Triple Rec would be a good clean amp but it is one of my favorite amps to play any style of music through. Mine has the large cabinet with the Vintage Celestions in it and is my all time favorite amp, but its not practical to carry around. It can go from sparkly cleans to full on Roar! I have always wanted to get the Mesa C4 or 5, but I wasn't able to afford it when one was available. Tell me what you have used in your open-back Mesas and I might give it a try. Remember to list the amp type and the tubes used also to be able to get the full picture of what you have achieved. Thanks, Woody

I knew this would show up. 😉 The Mesa/Boogie FB group is having a field day. General consensus is the MkVii is just a MkV with more switches. I watched the video at the MB website and kept on thinking to myself that I can get all those sounds with my Triple Crown.

After fifty-one years it's probably not much of a leap to speculate that the Mark VII is/will be Randall Smith's Swan Song.

Mine had the EV Black Widow, but I have a Ted Weber built speaker in it currently.

I have an older Express 5:25 that I just ADORE. Sometimes I think about the mini Mark 5:35 head, but maybe in a few years time. But the Mark VII is more amplifier (and power) than I'll probably ever need.

I really don't know if I'm happy with either one, a 112 open back cabinet sounds tubby to me.

Apologies for going OT for a moment.... but I have a Mesa Express 5:50 and can't quite bond with it. I like the tones, but there's something the sound that's hard to describe. It seems "detached"... like the amp has been turned away from my ears or is sitting in another room. It's either my ears (which wouldn't be surprising) or some frequencies are getting lost somewhere and taking a kind of "presence" with them. I'd like to experiment to with different speakers, but I don't have any. LOL.

I have a Greenback in there now and I love it. But that's underpowered in a 50W amp.
The stock speaker was made-for-Mesa Celestion Vintage 30 that cone sniffers says was made by a magical unicorn named Mojo. I wasn't blown away. Not enough sparkle, a little too much bottom. On an amp with a presence control you can put the sparkle back in but the Express series has no presence control. For a 50 watt amp, I'd first try the Neo Creamback. It's good enough for Fender in many combos and still decidedly Celestion sounding with overdrive. 6 lbs lighter too!

Too many knobs and switches for me! The best Boogie I’ve owned was a Mark IIc+ combo. Not too complicated, great tone (even with the Black Shadow), but too heavy and too loud. I reacquired my Mark I reissue head after the death of a family member to whom I’d given it. It’s a great little/big amplifier and all the Boogie I need. Plus 1 on RS’s swan song.

I had a Mesa Nomad, never bonded with it. Flat knob sound sounded voiced wrong. Changing anything was like a science project...too many knobs and not good base sound is when I say no
