Between when this was filmed and "The Honeymooners", Carney was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and served as an infantryman and machine gun crewman during World War II. As a member of the 28th Infantry Division during the Battle of Normandy, he was wounded in the leg by shrapnel and walked with a limp for the rest of his life. As a result of the injury, his right leg was ¾-inch shorter than his left. Carney was awarded a Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal, the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, and was discharged as a private in 1945.
Serious business for a talented, natural comedian.

Thanks for the cool footage of a then budding comedy legend and really good actor/entertainer.

One of my fav episodes is the one in which Ralph and Ed squabble over the jointly-owned TV set:

*Ralph, gesticulating wildly and rolling his eyes as he storms back and forth across the room*
"Oh you're a riot, Alice! A reg-ya-luh RIOT!"

One of my favorite Art Carney gems was "The Late Show," where he plays an aging private detective. (Once again, a cat is involved)
