Every time I cook a Thai meal for example its "yum!" when we sit down, followed then by 2 days of "the house stinks!".
I really need to get better equipped with the outside grill. Even when I've managed to cook outside it still manages to "permeate" indoors.

Aromatic candles are a chef’s best friend.

I cook chicken tenderloins on my George Foreman grill and it stinks the place up.
Better weather is coming up, so I'll be able to open the doors and windows soon.
The smell doesn't stop me from doing it, but the taste of the final product and the stink that it makes are diametrically opposed.

That's what BBQ grilling is for. Any aromatic meals are best cooked outdoors.

Not when it's -7°F outside.

I eat less fish than I'd like to for this reason. When it comes to spices or something, I don't worry. I don't mind that lingering smell.
I'm an apartment dweller and smells can last a VERY long time especially if you're in a closed-window season.

We have a very powerful vent hood (around 900 CFPM IIRC). It's powerful enough that the installer said we should have an interlock with the HVAC system to open an inlet vent when we run it on high. We just crack a window since the interconnect was going to cost thousands.
We run that on high or second highest setting when cooking pungent stuff. During the summer, we do a lot on the grill/smoker and the outdoor flat top griddle.

Here is the in the islands, we have a lot of dishes calling for pungent aromatic ingredients. Chinese have their hum ha (fermented shrimp paste) used to season meat and seafood dishes. Filipinos have their bagoong, also a fermented shrimp paste. My friend makes an excellent kare kare (oxtail and peanut butter stew) that is served with bagoong. I sometimes make stir fry with fermented black bean paste and garlic - the more the better. Maybe my sense of smell becomes desensitized after, but I’ve never really noticed it lingering.

We have a small window which accomodates one of those fans that has the accordion like plastic pullout on one side. Just used this evening for stir fry.

There's a second complete kitchen in the shop/studio building.
Problem solved.

for me it's wife not allowing me to cook Salmon in the house. No problems with any other food except old bacon. I have diminished sense of smell so I rely on hers.

Cooking smells tend to accumulate in our upstairs bedroom, which is fine if the item being cooked is something I like. Not so much when the item being cooked is something I don't like.
The dogs like all food smells, so they're down wid it no matter what...

There is no fish cooked indoors and I have to be out of the room if roasting jalapenos. Beyond that, I don't have any issues with food smells other than burnt.

Try shutting the door. My trio crashed here during a blizzard last year and I foolishly let my drummer smoke in the house. It wasn't so bad downstairs but it all went upstairs to the bedroom and I was sick all night.

The only thing aromatic around this house is me. And that's the way we like it.
