I tried these out about 6 months ago and really like them. They are a definite improvement over the standards. A. The screw that has a larger diameter is now part of the button and they use a hex key to tighten onto the instrument. B. They use a larger and thicker "donut" like nut that is easy to put on with your fingers and sports a set screw to help secure it. Yes it costs more but worth it to me. It does require a tiny size blade screw driver (jewelers screwdriver).
They come in Chrome, Nickel, Black and Gold.

I'm still using the Fender-branded Grolsch rubber locks (ok, they're not those exactly, but that's all they are).
They do the job admirably and I have them on all my guitars, no modification to instrument OR strap.

I have the Schallers on all of my straps for my 7 electrics. On a couple of them, I can't keep the lock from spinning on the strap no matter how much I tighten it. Also, a couple of them won't lock completely.

The EB ones look identical to the Fender ones except logo and they're a buck more expensive a pack!

Is the button (guitar piece) identical to the older version of locks?
If that part is the same I'd consider trying the new S locks right away.
I have many straps/guitars sporting the old version.

I have them on all three of my electrics (old version on two, Mojo knockoff on one), if I had a need for a fourth I would definitely get the new version.

I used to use them more. I still like them, I just don't find them as necessary. I found the way the guitar hangs and sorta wants to swing is something you either love or hate. I kinda liked it. It was easier to adjust the instrument against my body.
I like the set screw in there. I've seen the new ones, haven't used them yet.

I can't keep the lock from spinning on the strap no matter how much I tighten it. All I can imagine there is the straps are not thick enough for the lock to clamp into the leather (assuming the strap ends are leather). Granted my straps are all made myself and I control the thickness at the ends. Example below. The locks sink into the leather a bit, I couldn't get mine to spin if I tried. At least I assume it was age. So I check them now and then.

Yea, not surprised given rubber-esque stuff doesn't last forever.
But realistically, at < a buck a pop, I can afford to replace them every so often if I had to.
Been using cheap Ebay ones (prior to the Fender ones coming out) for over a decade, they're still holding up!

Thanks for the review but I've got the Dunlops on almost all of my stuff. A couple have the red rubber washers, for which I bought a bag of about a hundred for small bucks.

I have schallers (older style) on one of my guitars. The one I'd most need it for is my LP, but I'm reluctant to change out the strap button on that. I have a really nice Eyeland strap for that, but it's getting loose on the end. I may just pick up some grolsch style locks for that.

Grolsch man here too! And, I don’t recall ever getting offered a tasty six pack from Schaller!

I don’t ever remember a tasty 6 pack of Grolsh.
Well… I just plain don’t remember.
