I bought a nice leather Galco holster for a new pistol. Man, is it snug! Too tight. Way too tight, can't get the pistol out.
Any tips for breaking it in?
Peegoo? Anybody?
Been a long time since I've had a new holster.

I have several leather holsters that all are too tight. Right now I have one that lives in the holster bedside with the hopes it'll loosen up. I suppose I could stand in front of the mirror and draw a few thousand times, lol, but I've pretty much gone to kydex.

I recall my brother suggesting the plastic bag thing. I think I totally forgot. Thanks for the link.

I don't have an answer, but if you can't get it right, I'm in the market for a nice piece of stropping leather.

Hmmm. I went to post my Alabama pocket holster through imgbb and it was quickly removed from their hosting site. Okie Dokie.

Thanks, Harleyboy, the Glock 19 is now in a ziplock bag in the holster where it shall remain overnight.
I shall report back in the a.m.

Just throw your gun in the dryer and shrink it.

It think you’re supposed to butter the gun before putting it in the holster in the bag.

Just throw your gun in the dryer and shrink it. My goodness this is so irresponsible. Don't you know you're supposed to unload the weapon first before putting it in the dryer? 😄

I'd also recommend adding some other laundry to dampen the noise. Darks only!

I'd also recommend adding some other laundry to dampen the noise. Darks only! That's a double whammy. Racial profiling AND making an unlicensed suppressor. Major felony on the latter!

Seriously, I've found that just doing the "leave the gun in overnight" a few times, removing, resetting did it just fine without a bag.

I've never had an issue with leather holsters and my firearms. I have been told to soak my leather boots in water then wear them till they dry. When I do this with my boots I have very comfortable shoes.
The article mentioned Galco, all of my Galco holsters worked from new without any voodoo required.

Yea, my main carry holsters have always been Galcos and they were tight (and still are).
But the pistol comes out FAST when it needs to and no other time.

I've done the plastic bag trick before and it does work.
Please report back with results. If it doesn't yield enough, return it to Galco for a replacement. Their customer service is fantastic.

I’ve never had the plastic bag trick fail. Sometimes I have to also double bag, and I always use Ziplocks - grocery bags are too thin.

Ok, here's the verdict- partial success. The pistol definitely goes in and out a bit easier.
But I'm going to give it another 24 hours in the bag.
HD, I am using a ziplock bag.
And while we're waiting, let me tell you this: this is my first Glock, a Gen4 19. And I am very impressed with it. Shoots nice, breaks down easy, easy to clean. I was lucky to find it, as it was basically brand-new, never been fired. The Gen5s are out now, don't know what the changes were. But I traded a .22 rifle and $280 for it, which was a pretty good deal, I think.

Shoots nice, breaks down easy, easy to clean. Glocks are indeed easily taken apart. We had a course learning about the weapons where we could (with a bit of practice) have every single removeable part off our Glock and sitting on the table in about 90 seconds. Then it could be completely reassembled to fully functional in about 120 seconds. Glock 17 pieces and parts by Larry Madsen, on Flickr For practical purposes it showed that if a part in my Glock breaks, I can easily replace it myself.

My G19 is by far my fave. Never had failed to fire with any ammunition and hitting paper from even a good distance isn't a problem. OTOH, I either need more range time or some adjustments to my Sig P365 which was my intended EDC. I might miss a barn from 7 yards on that one. My Ruger LCP 380 is way more accurate.

Glocks may be nice but Glocks = too much plastic for me. I have several guns that belonged to my grandfather, then my father and then handed on to me...I'd like anything I buy to be built to last long enough to go to my grandkids. I bought P365 because they advertised it as a "steel frame". What they didn't mention was that 80% of the structure of the gun was the polymer grip module. I picked up an anodized aluminum grip module for it and the handling, balance and overall feel are vastly improved.
I've shot Glocks before but the new M&P M2.0's are much nicer IMO. I shot a rental at the range and shot a dead center quarter sized 5 shot group at (IIRC) 10 yards.

I spray a little Lexol into the the holster and insert the bagged gun. The Lexol will allow the fibers to move a bit. The lexal is primarily used for rejuvinating/ hydrating the leather. Lexol is safe for metals as well. I get it at Tandy, it’s really good for Black Powder shooting, it cleans the barrel of corrosive materials and lubricant it at the same time www.amazon.com/Lexol-Leather-Conditioner-Cleaner-Kit/dp/B07LGVZLP9

I've had a Glock 23 Gen 4 since they came out. It's been reliable and it's actually nice to shoot despite the smallish size for the caliber. The double recoil spring of the Gen 4 does reduce the snap compared to earlier versions. And the Hello Kitty grip plug makes it downright cuddly.

In Vietnam I just jammed my M1911 in a cowboy holster and with the heat and humidity, the holster formed to the weapon. That pistol plopped into that holster like the leather was sewed around it. To simulate that I might try an old trick for making boots fit to your foot. Put a plastic bag in the holster and fill the bag with very hot water. When the leather is substantially warmed, remove the water and bag and insert the pistol.

I bought an inexpensive leather OWB Versacarry for my G19 just to have (no intention for open carry). Its actually not bad but also tight. Did the bag thing last night and it worked better than expected. It also has a pocket for an extra mag that is ridiculously tight so I'm trying the bag trick on that one too. It wears well with a heavier winter coat.
