I have no preference, because both are great. I have a Maxon OD808 and an Ibanez TS9 and both are really good.
A lot of their appeal has to do with how well your amp will work with 'em. Some amps just don't play as nicely with pedals and others do.

I think one is not better than the other; they are so close in terms of tone, it's really a wash. Each model is not unique enough to make a practical difference.
The TS9 does provide a wee bit more top end when the tone control is dimed. Realistically, most guitar players won't use the pedal with the control maxed out anyway. That's why to my ears it's a wash.

This is really a matter for your own ears/rig/playing situation. It’s impossible to project that.

The one you like the look of the most.
Both Brian Wampler and Josh Scott have clearly stated that result of any circuit differences in the circuits (which are minor changes in just a few components) are inaudible to the human ear. So, for all practical purposes the 808s/TS9s/TS10s are the same. There is a small amount of audible variation from unit to unit (because no two pedals have perfectly matched components values throughout the circuit) and that applies to any pedal line ever made.
And that's where the JHS Bonsai pedal comes in - Josh Scott did NOT replicate the sound of TS808 vs TS9 vs TS10 circuits etc. because they sound different (as we just stated, for all practical purposes they are the same) but he replicated his personal favorite *specific example* from each pedal line, by measuring each individual component in that individual pedal and precisely reproducing that individual circuit. That's wild and crazy and blows my mind and I gotta respect that kind of geekery.

That's wild and crazy and blows my mind and I gotta respect that kind of geekery. I've been eyeing stuff like that for a while, because MOST of the time I only get picky with pedals when one works better with one guitar and another works better with a different guitar, and I'm not enough of a tool to swap out pedals each time I trade a Tele for a 335 or something. My gut feeling is if I sat down with something like that for long enough, I'd find my perfect two or three settings for what I have without having to spend lots of time buying stuff and trying it, chasing dragons, or doing mods.
Pedals are kinda silly to me anyway, though... I don't like when a pedal sound dominates the tone, as it often does when it gets too boutique-y. I hear that in the newest blues recordings, and all I can hear is "I BOUGHT A NEW PEDAL!" and it doesn't feel musical. Maybe that's just me, though.

Have both and really don't recall much of a difference. The older TD808 as a different jack for the power so you need the adapter but it's no big deal.

I’ve used the TS9 for almost 20 years. Tried the 808 and never felt it was different enough to pay the extra coin. No regrets. I also have a Digitech CM2 I use in “Modern” mode for something different.

The whole genre is sold on hype. Josh’s recent video demonstrated that in spades. At the end of the day just play guitar. Twiddle the knobs you have rather than buy new ones.

I have the Maxon OD9 Pro+
I imagine it fits into the same mix of toys there.

I've heard both, but only ever owned the TS9 because that's what I got the best deal on. I can't say as I've heard much difference between the two.

I've never found a TS9/808 to mesh well with my other toys or amps, so...
..never kept one past the GC return period and haven't ever felt like returning.
I want more gain if I want gain, and it's too particular a sound otherwise for me to want since I'm not gunning for rawk.

The JHS Bonsai does a pretty good job at giving you a choice of the different variations.
