I'm up waaaay too early, 12:50 AM, due to a tornado warning which has now passed. We sat in the cellar for about an hour before the all-clear was given. I went back to bed but then the dogs started tag teaming me wanting out. At 2:30 I decided to make coffee and just stay up. I can take a nap later.
I listed a Celestion Greenback on Reverb yesterday. I looked at my email and there was a message from Reverb's message board making an offer. This was just a message and not an "Offer" request. The wording looked like another scammer. I replied to the message stating that it looked like a scammer but if they were serious to make the offer through the correct channels and i would consider it. A couple minutes later I got a message from Reverb saying the guy had purchased the speaker. A few minutes later I got ANOTHER message asking for a refund. The note on the refund said "Accidental Order." HUH? How do you make an "Accidental order?" I sent the guy another message asking if he still wanted the refund and if he does I will do it. I'm still waitng for a response.
Between the scammers and the idiots I am getting very annoyed with Reverb as of late. It is turning into another clown show just like Ebay. I have bought and sold hundreds of items online over the years. Why do the morons always have to screw up a good thing? The Karens and Kevins are taking over the world. Kind of makes me glad I'm getting up there in age and won't have to live my entire life in their self-centered little bubbles.

You seem to have the worst luck on Reverb. I’ve had 100s of transactions, so far, with nothing like this.
The one thing I do not do is reply to offers in messages or scammers.
The worst thing I’ve endured was a guy who bought a 15” Eminence guitar speaker, then decided (while it was still in the mail) that he didn’t want it. I told him I’d take it back but he had to pay the return shipping and a restocking fee. Instead he decides not to sign for it and proceeds to pester me for a refund. I repeatedly told him I need the speaker in my possession to do that. Then he turns into a broken record - asking for a refund. Meanwhile the speaker is sitting in his local P.O. unclaimed. This goes on for 2 months. Sometimes my replies were, “I don’t have the speaker.”
Finally he decided to pick up the speaker… and keep it. 🤪
I really didn’t endure much. I had the money and I shipped the speaker. I was acting totally in the right. He just needed two months to figure that out. 😂🤣😂
I suspect I was dealing with a young teen. Or a 35y/o living is his parent’s basement.

Try Craigslist. You'll have a new appreciation for however you were selling prior to that. Craigslist is 100% scammers, low ballers and tire kickers.

I have sold many things on Craigslist. That's where my scammer-alert skills were developed.

At the risk of sounding repetitive… never answer. They are looking to get you engaged with them. If they’re trying to operate outside the system, just pretend they never contacted you.
I’ll answer legit questions and also post my reply in the listing for all to see. I ignore all hinky messages, etc.

Not going to speculate at the source(s) but it sure seems that in addition to monetary scams there's an intent now to sabotage online commerce. How many people are just walking away in resignation because of this kind of crap? I know I am, so if that's the intent, then mission accomplished. For me it's an inconvenience, for others it could be something much more. I honestly can see places like Ebay and Reverb shutting down someday if there isn't some serious intervention with these scumbags.

I didn't give up. I gave him his refund and re-listed the speaker. If he does this to me again I have cause to report him and get him banned.

Scammers are the worst. My cousin is sending you a money order for $2,000 just keep what you want for the speaker and shipping. I will provide instructions on where you deposit the difference.
On my continuing quest to divest myself of 3 things a day, I have listed on Ebay, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. The best response so far has been Ebay for sales and have not been scammed yet. I have not listed anything on Reverb yet. Good luck on selling your speaker.

I did some further investigation about the last failed transaction on Reverb. The name on the message sent was Tom-something. The business name on his page was Tom's something Gear. The business was listed as being in Colorado.
When the order was made, the shipping address was a PO box in El Centro CA to a guy named Joseph something or other.
Even though the guy had positive feedback and a couple dozen or so sales and purchases I'm still not sure that guy wasn't a scammer at some level. Too many inconsistencies for my liking.
I pulled the listing from Reverb and put it up on Sweetwater's Used Gear site. Reverb can smootch my donkey. I'm not putting up with that crap any more. If they want my business they are going to have to rein that activity in on their site.
