Buds on the branches and...hailstorms and/or torrential rain storms...you know, when an ocean falls from the sky in 10 minutes ! If lucky enough to catch it in the daytime, I grab a big strong umbrella and walk out into a waterfall in the middle of the street. Water falling and splashing and bouncing MADLY...off of everything !! My favorite nature show ! Never fails to crack me up.

Draining the whole house humidifier.
Picking up a billion sticks & small branches.
Watching the Robin's twitterpations, lol
Seeing all the wife's perennials emerge.

For me it is the trees budding out. Also those glorious day and night when neither the heat or the A/C kicks on. I can feel the savings.

High 90f today, 63f by Friday. The A/C has been turning on more consistently than the heat for several weeks now. A couple of weeks ago I finally took off the frost shields from my outside water spigots and hosed off the pollen from the patio/bbq, etc. The Mockingbirds have been flitting around the eaves and light fixtures, looking for nesting locations. I've mowed the lawn weekly for the past month and the grass and some shrubs are showing signs of recovery from the deep freezes we experienced this past winter.

"First Day of Spring". It's right there on the calendar. And that's a good thing, because otherwise I probably wouldn't notice.

the first i notice is out in the pastures, the wild onions appear above the winter grass...
then what my mother called Easter flowers, i'm not sure what they really are... yellow petals... (you know about tone-deaf, i'm plant deaf, i can barely tell a few plants from another)
then the RED WING blackbirds show up at the ponds and start squawking and squabbling for territory and nesting rights...
the MOCKINGBIRDS show up
the big BULLFROGS at the ponds start singing....

Speaking of birds if anyone is interested, my wife downloaded an app called Merlin that allows you to record bird sounds and it identifies the species. It seems pretty accurate and even lists multiples from the same sound recording. Pretty cool.

I’ve been using Merlin for over a year. It’s great! Yeah, yesterday morning she recorded a massive avian cacophony (sorry, just exsersizing my vokabulery) from the back porch and the app listed about a dozen species.

Yeah, yesterday morning she recorded a massive avian cacophony (sorry, just exsersizing my vokabulery) from the back porch and the app listed about a dozen species. I’ve not used that feature yet. I do have a “life list” of birds I’ve seen… most here in the property.

My wife uses the Merlin app for the bird (squirrel) feeder arrivals, she loves it! Also the calls with income tax questions start to slow way down.
