Yep its less than 6 years old and its leaking. Sitting in a pan with a drain so not a crisis. In the process of talking with Rheem about warranty. Supposed to be a 6 year full replacement. Waiting for their confirmation. Warranty will replace the unit but not reimburse labor. A friend installed it so I didnt pay anything. Will have to drain it and get the new unit from Home Depot. Another homeowner dilemma.

Around here water heaters don't tend to last long, but 6 years is a very quick turnaround even by my standards.

I replaced my about 12 yrs ago, probably gettin close to being that time again. I'm having my second stage heat exchanger replaced on my furnace next week, it's only 13 years old. I guess Carrier had a issue with the coating on them corroding early. I have to pay the labor costs, 600$.

Our hot water heater went just short of 9 years before developing a leak. The only dilemma was how to pay for it, because obviously it had to be relaxed ASAP.
And yes, I said “hot water heater” because I know it is triggering for some lol.

Water heaters have a sacrificial anode that is supposed to corrode in place of the sides of a tank corroding. This is supposed to stop them from leaking prematurely. The trouble is, you have to replace them every couple of years or so.
I have never replaced one. I don't know of anyone who has ever replaced one. Has anyone on here ever gone through with it? If so, did your water heater last longer than expected?
