We are on the road from the Carolinas to Maine with our 2 year old German Shepherd. Tuesday of last week was his 1st hotel stay. His 1st night not sleeping in our house in the 2 years we have had him. He did not like the motel at all. Last night was his 2nd night and he did better but still stressed. More improvement tonight but the scents of all the previous dogs and peeps is a lot of stimulation. He is a great dog who would do anything for my wife. He is doing OK with all the drive time but he has to share his seat with some stuff and does not care for that. Acclimation really pretty well. Good boy Django!

When at home, our dogs sleep on the bed with us (they're only 17 pounds ea.). They sleep on a full-sized blanket that covers our blankets. On top of that one, there are some "baby" blankets for them to burrow into. When we travel, we take "their" blankets along and put them and a couple of favorite toys on the motel bed. That seems to go a long way towards putting them at ease since it makes the motel bed "smell like home" to them. One of the dogs is very smart but pretty skittish. The above procedure has worked wonders helping her relax in strange environments.
