I asked earlier about salt free water treatment systems, but I’ve given up on those. I’m now shopping for a conventional water softener system, and the prices are making my eyes bleed. We have moderately hard water, 149 PPM.
Has anyone had one installed in the last few years? Two estimates I’ve gotten so far are in the $5000 to $6000 range which seems outrageous. What prices are you seeing?

discountwatersofteners.com has a lot of information including converting PPM to GPG. It does not look like you need any special unit based on their information charts. Good luck!

We had a nice salt unit , installed by Lowes , about 7 years ago. We paid $700.00 for the whole deal. We even had them add an outdoor soft water tap for auto washing. Even if inflation tripled the price its not $5/6000. Call your local big box store. Can't hurt.

We had a 2 tank system installed for $1,385 two years ago. That's ancient history, what with all the supply chain issues and inflation since then. Nevertheless, $5,000 to $6,000 seems mighty extreme. The spot for the water softener was already plumbed in so that probably saved us a few hundred dollars.

I’ve had two quotes now in the same $5k-$6k range for better quality units including adding the plumbing loop. I want one of the newer ones that uses less salt.
I have the Lowe’s contractor coming this week for quote three, let’s see where he is at.

I thought I replied and said Home Depot has several under 1000. Maybe I forgot to submit?
