The amp was a “thing” for a short period about 15 years ago or so.
I dug mine out recently and had a couple of hours on it and I was pleasantly surprised. Playing at home and not annoying the neighbours.
As a mainly acoustic player, I was surprised at how authentic it sounded with all my electrics - with the exception of my Les Paul.
As a Katana and DAW-based sounds sort of guy when playing electric now, just plugging in straight to a basic amp felt really good.
It was very cheap too.
I’m interested in hearing if anyone else still rates the amp. Mine is stock as I didn’t feel the need to do anything to it after I bought it.

They're selling for substantially more than when new.
I have a little Marshall DSL-1 head (with a 1x12 cab, as I despise small speakers) for the same basic purpose; the 6" speaker is what kept me away from teh Champion at the time.

I don't have the 600, but I have a '66 Champ and a '72 Vibro Champ. Each one has a 6" speaker and sounds fantastic.
Run one of these little beasts into a 2x12 or a 4x12 and it will shake dishes in the kitchen cabinets.

Yea, I used to run my Champs to 1x12s (for space/portability reasons) and was VERY pleased until I lit one literally on fire.
That night I discovered what a "slo-blo" fuse was - the vintage shop had sold it to me with the wrong fuse installed.
To his credit, he replaced the amp (had a ton of them there then) and had the staff check EVERY other amp in the shop to make sure the right fuses were instaslled.
They found a few more that had regulars too.

Fender Champ and Vibro Champ amps have 8" speakers actually. I believe that extra couple of inches makes a big difference, but yeah, plugged into a larger external cab they can sound even better.

Yea, I crammed 10" into the one I'd use most for "smaller" situations.
Speaker was absolute garbage, a Radio Shack Realistic special but it brought up ugly in the amp in a good way and sounded worlds better at real volume compared to the farttastic stock one.

Fender Champ and Vibro Champ amps have 8" speakers actually. I made adapters and have 6" speakers in them because I like them cranked for recording. They move less air in the room, but with a mic poked right in them you cannot tell it's a six.

I used to have a 5 or 6 watt tweed style Goldentone amp made here in Australia in the 60's which had 2 Plessey Rola 6" speakers. I really enjoyed the sound of that, and it too recorded very nicely.

I considered getting one and liked it, but got the 5W Epiphone Jr instead. Still have it. I never felt a need to do any of the mods either. Just a volume control gives you a good idea what you're working with for sure. I break it out every once and a while and before and after I change pups and such, also not a bad harp amp.

I always liked the sound of the Champ 600. Not so sure about the durability, though. That's not an issue for me, but I had a couple of friends who used them onstage, frequently several times a week. The Champs didn't seem to take well to leaving the house.

I still have mine, purchased 18 Nov 2007. The first thing I did was change the 6V6 for a long-body JJ version because the OEM tube was noisy. I had to remove the protective cage to fit it due to extended length. It's had the same tube fitted since which was changed about two weeks after purchase. Because the cage isn't fitted I have to make sure the power lead doesn't touch the tube prior to power application.
The next thing, years later, was to staple the vinyl covering of the rear access panel due to not being a particularly good job in the first place.
it's still stock with no mods and I still love the tone of it. it's a great little platform for OD/distortion/fuzz and other effects pedals.
