I always preferred the subtle message of " too drunk to f*ck". I wasn't a huge DK fan, but I sure do love the Misfits, Minor Threat, Rollins era Black Flag, etc.

I was never into punk but liked some new wave. The Squeeze was pretty good.

The Pistols, the Clash and The Ramones remain in heavy rotation around here.

"Remember Punk, before we got old"
Sorry, too late: that ship had already sailed in my case. In fact, it was already far out at sea. In any case, I was way too old to be participating in any sort of Punk club scene at that time.
As a consequence, the music has no youthful, nostalgic, social associations for me, so going on sound alone, I kind of lump New Wave and certain types of Pop of that same time period in with Punk. At least, they tend to work well together for me in play lists.
•Joe Jackson
•The Jags
•Oingo Boingo
•XTC
•DEVO
•Talking Heads
•B-52s
•Soft Boys
•Xene Czervenka
•The Knack
•Aquabats
•Elvis Costello
Hope anyone who considers this to be sacrilegious can forgive me...

Back in the late 80's, our ship was in Portsmouth, England and we learned last minute that he was playing at the local theater, so we went. He put on a good concert.

DK I loved for the band, Jello was too hit or miss.
Now the Misfits, that's my comfort food.

It hit just at the right age for me. Loved it then. Holiday in Cambodia was a good one. Simple fun for simple times Still give most of them a spin now and then just for fun. But I've grown up.

I saw the Clash at a concrete barn in Omaha in the '80s called the Music Hall. It was 3x louder than it needed to be. Way too loud. Too loud to enjoy.
I wish I would have left immediately. My ears have never been quite the same.

Maybe I've just heard the wrong stuff, but I've never understood what was "punk" about the Clash. Everything I've heard sounds like new wave to me, certainly nothing like the Ramones or Sex Pistols.

Is Jools Holland a thing in the US? Best known in the UK for innovative live music TV shows, including one every New Year's Eve (rumoured to be recorded in July).
Anyway,Jools was the keyboard player with Squeeze and Gilson, the drummer in Jools' current big band, was also a member.

Lee Ving of Fear… Interesting fellow. He must be about 73 today. Studied guitar under Jim Hall, John Abercrombie and Ted Green. Enlisted in the Army in the mid-60s, studied sociology in college, was in a band that opened for Cream in their farewell tour, drew enough attention to act in a few movies and television shows. Sort of punk’s anti-punk.

Back in the day punk never resonated with me.

Hated Sex Pistols, then and now, also hated the whole rash of can't-play-at-all punk posers, but could not help but like The Ramones. Their humor and fun won me over. I just considered The Clash a Rock band.

punk is such a broad term and the next time it comes around as popular, it will be called something else and people will ask, wtf is this? uh...it's punk or whatever you're calling it now. Like what is country...wait, nevermind
